Katelyn Tuohy vs Natalie Cook

We are getting somewhere now! I can’t believe I have to say what I said over a year ago when everyone said Cook was the greatest HS CC runner after running a 16:03 at Running Lane “Track.” Her speed rating was a 165 ( not a historic speed reading at all, not even a top 10 performance because that course is a joke). Now what Tuohy did on that NJ course was by far the greatest HS XC run EVER!!!! She ran a 16:21 with a 177 speed rating ( the second fastest ever, only Trotter was better on a flat Florida course). That NJ course is a legit and hard XC course. All you have to do is look at Cooks speed ratings and everyone who has a brain functioning properly knows Cook could have NEVER got close to that time on that course!!!!! She may have run maybe 16:50.

Unless she gets hurt, Cook will not be close to Tuohy in Stillwater in November!!!!

I think that with Tuohy’s commanding victory this morning; and course record setting performance, at the Joe Piane Invitational that this is…. (Well, I’ll let ya’ll think your own thoughts).

Huuuuge Katelyn Tuohy fan here but this is objectively false. Sadie ran a 2:05 800 as a frosh, which is better than Katelyn ever ran in high school. Katelyn ran 2:09 (along with 1:35 for 600 and 2:47 for 1000). Sadie's 9:50 3200 is also faster than Katelyn's 9:42 3000 and 10:35 3200 as a frosh. It's also only 3 seconds off Katelyn's 9:47 national record, which is impressive considering Sadie only ran 4 3200s this past season, 2 of which were part of quadruples at dual meets. It'll be fun to see if both can win xc national titles this year!

Their race times aside, in terms of overall athleticism, I would say Tuohy is by far the stronger athlete.

I think it is kind of strange to run less than the average MPW of a hobby jogger, for fear of injury (presumably). The real question is why is cook so injury prone? She needs to address that because to me, running as little as you can to avoid being injured before a race that lasts like 10 minutes isn’t the peak of a strong and tenacious athlete.

as for Tuohy, I also admire her because she is proof that you don’t need to be an extremely emaciated girl in quasi recovery from anorexia to run well. She hasn’t gotten bogged down by stress fractures and that’s because she’s strong and healthy. I appreciate that as someone who is in recovery from anorexia.
