I am in Seattle where the weather right now is basically the same as Eugene (59 degrees and cloudy). It is cool and crisp with maybe a touch of humidity but honestly pretty darn good for fast running this time of year.
The Burundi runner near the front has very legit track best of around 13:17 and 2730. Chahdi, the Frenchman moving near the front. Desisa really suffering - will someone take that man out of his misery ?
Side note: athletes missing games because of positive Covid tests, visa issues, new injuries, and failed tests. If I were going to the championships, I’d be living in a bubble until I got off the plane in Eugene. Why risk it?
Eugene is not Japan. There is no real appreciation of the marathon in the USA on a professional level. People don't understand what it takes to run at 2:04 to 2:10 marathon.
They should have organized a mass race on the course the day before like they did at the US trials
Hutchings said they had a mass 5k on course after the marathon started.
Chahdi, France, is a 2:08:00 guy and has been running well in France since he was a youth winning the youth French cross-country championships at around the age of 16. Very modest track times though.
