America Ninja Warrior is going to be in the Olympics, too. Pro cyling is pro cycling. It's like a steeplechaser running a road race.
Maybe more like a miler running a trail marathon. Granted, MTB isn't that far off from gravel in the case of this situation. I suppose with the explosion in demand for bicycles during COVID with concomitant supply chain constraints that there must be a bit extra cash floating around in the industry to throw at marketing via serious recreationalists.
I'm not into it, but I know people do like to watch gaming and ANW. I don't know who's watching gravel racing or how, has it made it onto FuelTV?
Gravel racing has always been a thing but was a bit more on the counter-culture side of cycling (much like ultra-marathons). It’s become more serious/ professional, in part to “retired” world tour riders seeking them as a fun challenging day on the bike, and also the new way sponsorships are social media-focused. With a more competitive top level of competition, and the ability to compete alongside them, the popularity exploded. I’d say it’s more like road marathoners doing trail 50-100k ultras. World tour and elite MTB racers are putting in 30+ hr weeks in the saddle.
I’d also like to think gravel racing has taken on popularity because it gets riders off busy roads for training and racing. Everyone from retired pros with families to the casual weekend warrior likes that.
Kaitlin Armstrong's attorney, Rick Cofer, is the sort of sleazebag who gives the legal profession a bad name. Retention of someone like Cofer -similar to attorneys such as Alan Dershowitz, and the late Johnnie Cochran and Robert Kardashian- is tantamount to an admission of guilt, where grasping-at-straws defendants seek to get off not via the facts, but by technicalities, gaming the system, and manipulating often not-very-bright jurors.
After Moriah Wilson's murder, Kaitlin Armstrong sold her SUV, fled the U.S. illegally using someone else's passport, had plastic surgery to alter her appearance in Costa Rica, traveled around that country under a variety of aliases, and gave a false name to police when questioned. Yet a shyster like Cofer will, with a straight face, attempt to insult everyone's intelligence by claiming that Armstrong is innocent and that "the real killer" is still out there somewhere.

Sleeveball for sure. Seems like another young arrogant lawyer who’s had some success and thinks he can argue anything now.
if he can actually prove the exact time of the gun shots and that Kaitlin wasn’t at that location at that exact time it definitely blows the case up. The only other person around of interest could be the landlord who perhaps herd the footsteps (he says he heard quick footsteps down the stairs but no gunshots), goes up there stairs and finds Moriah, who he doesn’t know, and shoots her thinking she’s an intruder. But all the evidence points to Kaitlin: matching gun, flees, changes appearance, car seen at the scene, incentive, past convos.

Come on, you can’t be seriously criticizing the constitutionally protected sixth amendment right to have a lawyer in criminal proceedings. The lawyer’s (as well as the judge’s) duty is to protect the defendant from unfair prosecution practices by the state. The lawyers have a set of rules by which they are bound and can not knowingly lie about facts they know (which in practice does mean they “don’t want to know” some things).
I would bet good money that Armstrong murdered Wilson, but she still has a right to a lawyer and lawyers are not scumbags for representing “clearly guilty” clients and acting in those clients’ best interests.

You would bet good money? Dude, she did it, there is zero doubt about that. You can bet everything you own and there'd be no risk of losing it...she did it, period. Yes she has the right to be represented and plead her case, but...she did it.
How did one of the best young bike racers in the country wind up dead in an Austin apartment? Our writer unravels the tangled story of a crime that shocked the world.
Outside online has a very lengthy story out on the murder
Reading that Outside Online article, a lot of it is made up fiction like this part: "Back in June 2019, when Strickland beat a bunch of Tour de France pros at Unbound and instantly became one of the most prominent athletes in the cycling world"
I follow pro cycling intensely and let me tell you that is a hilariously distorted view of reality. Even I didn't know or cared who "Colin Strickland" was because the USA "gravel" races are seen as a side joke by the rest of the world and to claim Strickland being an American gravel racer made him one of the "most prominent athletes" is a complete lie.

The story wasn’t really about his biking accomplishments. They briefly mentioned it. I just skimmed it but seemed to be more about the whole getting murdered thing. I think you should write them and demand they put out a statement saying he wasn’t really that good of a cyclist and they apologize for misleading their readers on his cycling acumen.

The Outside Online article is written by a friend of Colin Strickland to make it look like this is none of his fault to push back at all the commenters. Did you notice it doesn't go into any of the details of Strickland's prolific womanizing in the past that led to stalking and violence with others?

I don’t follow the sport so don’t know anything about the backstory and didn’t really read all that much of the article to be honest. Just skimmed it over

the lawyer has to be talking out his rear.
If he manages to get her off or convicted of a lesser charge, it’s going to be by claiming she’s also a victim and was mentally abused and manipulated by Strickland.

what's "womanizing" Mr. Morality?
As if women don't have free will and their own very intense sexual desires?
Wonder if her sister would also get charged for aiding and abetting a wanted person. She couldn’t have fled the country without help and it seems likely from what I read that her sis helped her including lending her her passport.
I'm about halfway through the article and don't know if I can finish it. I'm guessing Outside Magazine must be run by some far Left editors. Good to know that the fault for this tragedy lies squared on -- the gun.
"But I want you to remember something: if this conflict is what led to Wilson’s death, it did so because of a handgun."
"After providing the background information required by Federal law for licensed gun dealers, he asked the salesperson if they needed to have Armstrong’s information, too. “No,” he was told. “In the state of Texas, you can gift someone a gun.”
"Gun violence involving people of color is often diminished as gang- or drug-related. But when violent crime features somebody like Wilson, the world can’t seem to look away."
"he lived a remarkably carefree life, close to the best he could have imagined for himself. But he was aware of his male privilege, too."
"He knew that men commit nearly 80 percent of violent crime in the U.S., and he wondered: Why should a woman spend her life living in fear? Maybe a gun would make Kaitlin feel empowered, more independent, free to live the way she chose."

GTFOH
Because some psychopath'gain pleasure out of exploiting others by using brainwashing techniques to remove their free will.
Women are frequently the victims of this thankfully rare sport of crime vecayse they are socilalised to support their man, do his bidding, etc. But men can also be victims of female oerpa.
Its entirely possible that Strickland was one of these manipulator types, who had perfected his art over a number of victims.
I guess you're ajready aware that e tree sexual promiscuity and a high number of concurrent or overlapping sexual partners is also one of the classic signs of psychopathy?
OMG. It finished with the following ridiculous statement. Sad to see far Lefties use a person's murder to further their agenda. This happened because of a jealous woman who let her rage get thew best of her. Gun, knife or garrote would have the same result. Buy a gun people. It might save your life someday. Could have saved this woman's life.
"In some communities, gun violence is an all too regular occurrence. But in the cloistered cycling community I inhabit, it’s almost unheard of.
People get angry, they get hurt, they feel desperate all the time. They look for a solution to bring their pain to an abrupt end. A gun makes it very easy for them to hurt themselves, or someone else.
Strickland used flawed logic to purchase a gun, and he knows that. His belief that owning a gun would make women safer, free to pursue the life they want for themselves, was misplaced, regardless of whether or not Armstrong in fact killed Wilson. More guns equals more gun deaths. And not just of criminals. Less than 2 percent of violent crime is deterred through the use of a handgun."

Please. And do try to get l*id sometime, by more than one person a week, if possible. (It's VERY possible, btw, if you're fit, straight and live in a city.) I, for one, am grateful for all the promiscuous and more chaste women I slept when living in Austin, some of which I had to turn down for when the schedule got tight... Big deal.
Outside Online is getting roasted on its own Twitter tweet about that PR shill piece of Colin Strickland that Rojo linked to. The author Ian Dille is close friends with Colin Strickland and it is a massive conflict of interest. Outside Online should never have allowed that propaganda article to be published trying to whitewash any responsibility from Colin Strickland.
