I had heard nothing about this proposed marriage until I saw this thread. And I certainly had no idea how many times Lopez or Affleck had been married, or any other celebrity. This is the kind of information someone has to seek out. Heck, I can barely keep track of how many times my brother has been married.

I have some news pushed to me. I do not request celebrity news, and so as a result I rarely get any celebrity news (I think based on my parameters set I should get NO celebrity news).
The headline to the story told me what had happened (engagement for them). Impossible to not read the headline, so THRUST upon me. Unfortunately I know some of the other stuff about them, because The Lovely Mrs. Flagpole and I do still watch SOME broadcast television, and once the thing we are watching is over, if we don't turn it off immediately, we end up hearing some of this celebrity news. Have to be very proactive to escape it.
I agree that the thread is stupid. I made it because I didn't want to shoulder the burden of this knowledge alone. And yes, it is a burden. I get to decide what is burdensome to me. I don't like to see people make foolish decisions, and since these two are public people, I unburdened myself by sharing their foolishness (again though, Ben is the bigger fool here).
