Matthew Centrowitz triggered by Oregon Runner's "your move" comment

The only other sport I follow and watch is UFC- we need trash talking here in this sport. It looks bad cuz it’s rare so not the best look to have the Olympic champ talking down to some college kids. But in general it’s good for the sport. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s serious anger, but either way- I wanna see Centro line up with these Oregon guys. That’s entertaining to me. Running needs more interpersonal storylines to make the races meaningful to wider audiences.

It definitely is that deep now. Initially, when I saw Teare's 3:50, I kinda had flashbacks to Centro in 2011 winning the NCAA and then upsetting the USATF Championship before winning a medal. He was under the radar and everything clicked for him. Thanks to this-- the pressure is on for Teare.

I would never go at the reigning Olympic Champ from my alma mater with my Youtube chronies WHILE I am on the come-up in an Olympic Year. It's foolish, but he can chose to do what he wants to do. He sounded like an idiot on that Sit & Kick Podcast, and now the target is on his back.

If I was Ben Thomas, I would get these guys together. There is so much talent in Eugene right now, but the Youtube videos, cocky Instagram captions, and podcast appearances are not helping. I like Cooper Teare, but he is quickly casting himself as that "cocky collegiate kid."

Also, speaking of Ben's--- Ben Crawford is so thirsty it hurts to watch. Same with Evert Silva. These guys use the Oregon runner's identities for clout, and now they're using going at Centro to gain more of a following. Good luck to them.

These kids have a LONG way to go to be at Centros level. Not sure why the UO kids want to talk trash to him for our kicking Hocker at some random race. There is no rivalry. Centro is on the tail end of his career, the UO kids are just starting theirs. I don’t even know who this Christman kid is either. Why is he talking trash too?

Rivalries are good. Bad blood between competitors is good.

An Olympic champ lowering himself to look up and trash some walk-on from his alma mater is just sad.

In one sense, I agree...the banter creates real competition. HOWEVER ( with caps for intent), being a fan of UFC myself, there is a hUGE difference between Conor McGregor, Forrest Griffin, Tyson Griffin, Anderson Silva (in his day), and Jon Bones Jones talking crap and throwing real haymakers and runners who could beat Cheptegai one day and bonk on lap 11 of a 5k the next. But here's a key difference. Anderson Silva did not have a perfect record, but he's known as one of the best. Are we really giving that regard to Centro? Food for thought.

Not entirely true. You forget that Centro was essentially the leader of a team where one person did something reckless. One person was suspended in regard to that recklessness. It was a weird year for Centro then. It was not all peaches and cream for Centro.

Our sport is doomed.

MC competed on the same Oregon team as AA and LP at the time. Something happened regarding AA and LP ....LP got injured allegedly because of something by AA. But Centro was on that team and had to deal with the difficulty of that situation.
