I am not sure why anyone was expecting a faster performance. Galen is getting older now and there is no sign he will ever be what he once was. He ran fairly well actually.

also would be cool for him to get the record while running for a different coach after coming back from achilles surgery. He looked so smooth at the olympics trials....and John Kellogg himself estimated the hilly course to be 1:23 slower than a flat one...meaning Rupp solo'd a 2:07:high and looked relaxed while doing it in his first race back from a major surgery (for elite runners)

I would consider this an underperformance. If you're going to cheat, you should get the AR. I'm sure whatever Salazar was giving him still is having a positive affect. Ryan Hall ran his record with normal shoes and definitely was clean

1. Pretty boring result. Shows that Rupp is in pretty good shape, but he's just not quite there for where he would want to be. Still, it's good enough that he clearly hasn't fallen from where he needs to be to be the top American in any marathon.
2. In reference to Rojo's comment, I'm surprised he's in Alphafly instead of Vaporfly Next%. As London showed, almost nobody is using Alphaflys on the pro scene, presumably because they're a bit heavy and unstable. I would actually bet that the VF Next% are more efficient. I bought a pair of Alphaflys and don't care for them. Any time I step on as much as a crack in the pavement, I feel like I'm going to fall over. In fact, I've decided to only use them for treadmill workouts, where I know the surface is perfectly smooth.
