Robert Young fakes run across America

A new video on Robert Young's facebook page shows how he runs. I have to say it looks impressive.

If you have seen Wolfgang Schwerk and Joe Fejes running in Hungary this year, this is something else. Two of the best multiday ultrarunners in the world.

Or in more plain words, it looks totally unbelievable. There is no way that somebody would run that way after 2000 miles with 70mile/day days.

Umm... you're late to the show.

Yes ... buddy in front of him (pushing the camera pram?) looked relatively comfortable, but Mr. Young was looking like breakfast didn't sit well and his form was not someone who was going easy.

Counting the time between telephone posts, the pace was not extraordinary.

Also noted that the timer on the RV seems to have fallen-off again around 09:35 EDT this morning.

Looks like in 2015 he was in reasonable shape when he ran 3:09 at the London Marathon. This year he 'ran' 4:02 including a 2:30 last half. For an elite ultrarunner he is definitely carrying a spare tyre.

Do we know exactly when the video was taken? If we triangulate that with the RV GPS I am positive what we'll see next is a 50+ mile drive. You can tell he was trying really hard in that video to look strong and fit. I guess another explanation is the espresso flowing through his veins.

Robert invited me to come and then extended his invitation to a runners friend of mine. We contacted him again and never heard back.

But no worries there are a couple of runners lined up to check on him in the next week. And not just for 2 hours or so.

According to his online tracker, as of now he's 29 days, 11 hours xx minutes into it; so, if the record is 46 days 8 hours and 36 minutes, he's got a little less than 17 days to beat the record.

He looked like he was racing. That looked like race effort with the form, the concentration and so on.

That's not a good sign for him.

Anyone know what's planned at the end in terms of press coverage?

Anyone planning to show up from here in Times Square and confront him with the evidence or lack of it?

Stop whingeing and just go and run with him. It's an open invitation which nobody seems to want to take up.

Making fun of a couple of old guys who are trying to uphold the integrity of their sport isn't cool. It only makes you look like a jerk.

I agree. Team Turtle Geezers have just spent 9 days planning and training. They need at least another 2 weeks before they can drive all the way to Illinois.

So they basically have to drive much longer distances daily to get there on time. This situation is starting to become even more embarrassing. If people don't show up to run with this guy for at least some of the time they will certainly cheat all the way to NY. If the ultra guys can show up and run with him for at least 4 days he will never get the record. That is if they are monitored to some degree the rest of the way, because you know we might see some 100+ mile days if they need to push the envelope.

Can any experienced ultra guys comment on how one should look at this stage? To my untrained eye he looks like an average joe who is hot and tired and starting to break down (seems to have a bit of a hitch in his stride). Also, seems odd to be checking out one's watch so often when on such a long trek.
