The "smoking gun" whereby he is wearing Hoka Mafates in the most recent photo, "which he doesn't wear anymore so the photo must be from the 2023 injury", are being worn by him in the Freetrail video about his training just before Big Alta. This is also linked in this thread.
is there any independent way to verify that the clip from the Freetrail video was from his recent buildup and not a clip from 2023?
Some of these conspiracy theories are ridiculous, give the guy a break!
It seems like most if not all of the hate in this thread is coming from a couple of humans (maybe one) using multiple letsrun accounts that have an axe to grind.
Maybe this person(s) got passed by David at Leadville and now suffers from some hate/jealousy disorder or undiagnosed PTSD.

Today David has posted his first run back on Strava! Running 13.9 miles at around 6:44/mile pace average. Split a few low 6-min miles on the downhills.
So much for that horrible ankle sprain...
When asked about his ankle in the comments he replies that he "doesn't have functional ATFL ligaments" also. Whatever that is supposed to mean.

I just looked at his workout today along with the comments and saw David's response (below) to someone who questioned whether he was putting in enough volume. Remember when David claimed he was considering UC's XC coaching job, despite zero NCAA experience? I think David honestly believes is own nonsense.
"Robbie Diamond I like that feedback on potentially inadequate volume, but a couple notes: one, not everything I do is on Strava (I am writing this after a brutal 30-minute heat suit session), and I’m maxing out what’s physically possible for me with 2 young kids and being a world-class coach. Two, I won International Trail Performance of the Year in 2024, and I don’t think anyone would have predicted I’d ever get close to doing that 10 years ago no matter how hard I worked. Tons of more talented athletes have fallen away, and I am here, getting faster at 36. So as both an athlete and coach with long-term vision, I can confidently say it’s working. And hopefully it can be a model to young athletes who also aren’t given the gifts that fully shine on day 1 🙏"

He is so unbelievably cringe. He had to also post this on his Instagram of course:
He just keeps getting more cringe which seems impossible!! How does ANYONE listen/read anything from this guy and think - wow, what a humble, selfless person? EVERYTHING HE DOES IS SELF SERVING. No matter what he says to his followers it's to make him feel better about himself and he ties every single answer to a listener question back to himself - back to leadville, back to the car accident, back to his belief he's the best 100 miler in the world...
The number of superlatives and hyperboles he uses in every single public forum — "best numbers I've ever seen" "highest podcast numbers of all time" "greatest coach of all time" every workout is a "break through workout"...
HE IS TRUMP.

My favorite is that he says he got launched 100 ft when he got in his bike accident. The guy is smart enough to understand physics but chooses to have the conceptual capacity of a toddler here. Oh and not to mention the “secret powers” he unlocked by sustaining a traumatic brain injury. More great toddler logic.
Oh my god that has killed me from day one — 100ft? Ok dude. I was also hit by a car by a guy going 40+mph, almost died, but 1. didn't make it my personality, 2. didn't use it as an excuse, 3. probably never talked about it again unless it, you know, it was relevant. It's just another way to manipulate people into thinking he's overcome adversity and is now a god. It's actually offensive to anyone who has dealt with real loss, tragedy, struggle (eg: chronic illness)...
Wait. If I told you that I went from a past that included last place at Worlds, wins at some smaller races, top 10’s at slightly more competitive events to a present where I was setting CRs & running faster than I have before by (a) getting older, (b) getting hit by a car, (c) consuming more carbs, (d) deciding to race against runners I coach, and (e) believing in myself, you wouldn’t buy that?
My favorite is that he says he got launched 100 ft when he got in his bike accident.
It *is* a Trumpian tactic to lie about something that you want to have the narrative about, so that "haters" will call you out on it and the subject will get even more attention. It also reinforces that haters are horrible.

Absolutely this. To people who have actually faced real adversity—and don’t make it their identity—it’s really gross and potentially offensive to put the victimhood on like a costume. He and his wife are extremely privileged. He cites her temporary heart issue, a hamstring injury, and a C-section as having struggled immensely. Do you know how many cyclists I know that have had really, really bad accidents where they have to learn how to walk again? He had a crash. It sucks but he healed. I have had a worse crash where I was unconscious for minutes and broke bones too
Well, I guess to people who actually haven’t known real life suffering, those things are *serious* issues. I always want to tell them to just grow up. They haven’t had to. It’s pathetic and distasteful and just—what’s the word??—narcissistic.

As a cancer survivor who has gone through 24/7 pain for months and grueling treatments I find the likes of Roche absolutely insufferable. It's always Me, Me, Me. 'I went through the worst, I've had to face so much adversity, I am world-class, I work harder than anyone else' blablablahhhh ughh I could never.. he needs to SHUT UP. Yes, he had a bike accident. Yes, I believe it was traumatic and it probably did fuel his spirit.. but trauma or accidents aren't a competition. Don't brag about them..it's disgusting. He's such an obvious narcissist. Narcissists are bad people and anyone who defends him is in my eyes just naive and dumb.
Also remember that within days after he had that "severe concussion" there was a video clip of him running an uphill high intensity sprint with one arm in a sling. Of course I believe he banged his head pretty hard from the bike accident, but it just seemed totally reckless to post as a workout on social media considering he said it was such a severe concussion.
It's like they do anything for clicks and attention. Shameful. Misleading. Narcissists.
