I as a teenager was assaulted by a police officer while walking home from school because a friend I was walking with called him a Pig. I defended my friend and was roughed up, shouted and swore at and shoved into the back of his car and detained while he went through my backpack and lectured me.
Not going into a long diatribe about it. But thats just standard protocol of how they interacted with the community. Growing up there it didn't matter if you were a criminal or not, you were an animal in their eyes.
And no, drug dealers and criminals should not be allowed to terrorize the communities. But people should feel safe in that if there are those people terrorizing the community that they can call the police and not have to worry that the police will be worse than dealing with the criminals. Which is how it was growing up there. But please, argue with me like you've lived.
One other quick note. I had a black friend in high school he joined the MPD in hopes to help his community. He was one the scene of the George Floyd incident. Because of lots of reasons he cannot make public (such as threats on his life) he has since quit the force. There are lots of good officers, but often theres nothing they can do to fight the tide of toxic behavior within the departments.
