This has already been hashed and locked down on r/ultrarunning. What's crazy is that the minions on reddit seem to be slowly turning on him too. Irrespective of whether or not the photo was fake, they are losing the faith.
I DNF'd the podcast at about the 30 minute mark. I can't even listen to this drivel when I'm doing other things. It's Megan and David pumping each other up talking about how great they are, weird sexual innuendos, and unbridled braggadocio tempered by feigned humility (all a complete contradiction, as mentioned)
FWIW I do think David has a chance to win Western States if he can run his own race. There's no reason why he needs to be able to beat maybe the best 50k trail guy at Big Alta in order to prevail over 100 miles later this summer. But because of how detestable he is personally, I will be rooting for him to fail with all of my being.
The Boulder Boys really nailed it in their podcast. I forget the exact language but they basically said: if you are going to compete at Jim's level (and vs guys like Packer et al) you can't be doing all this triumphant/fraudulent stuff overextending yourself for social media. It misplaces too much energy. The kind of fitness that wins races isn't the kind that flexes itself at the mouth
