And that they are the ones who have for decades been cautioning about the constellation of problems that arise when a country is trying to achieve that purpose with broad-based tariffs?

Russia has been trying to pry apart the Western alliances for generations. Russia has also tried to keep China and the USA from working together. Russia wants the USA to turn away from the world. And of course Russia wants the USA to destroy itself from the inside.

The GOP talking point being rolled out for Trump's destructive tariffs and obliteration of the economy and the markets is this?
"we feel it is important to just trust the President, after all, he wrote the book art of the deal".

As is usual in Grownupland, the situation is complex. But fundamentally, why do you think a "solution" is required at all? "A little learning is a dangerous thing," and it looks like you're right at the danger point.
