no, it's not. The whole staff is men except the "ops assistant" of women's distance. it makes sense to have another female face that athletes can look up to, relate to, and rely on. They aren't hired solely because they're female, despite what people think. But might it give them an edge over someone with a bit more experience in these cases? Of course. It only seems like it happens too much because the profession is overflowing with men.

My wife has never coached or competed in track. I’ve talked to her enough about the sport that she told me she can go ahead and get into coaching and become a HC and she’ll hire me as an assistant. I am pretty sure she could very well do this in 2-3 years.

Distance, jumps, throws and multis lack talent and depth. This could be a dream job for Tonya as she wouldn't have to move far and could direct most of the money to sprints and hurdles. Existing staff has to go and be replaced with great recruiters.
