Please explain Trumps comments in the video clip truthseakr/exthrower. Trump clearly says government shutdowns are the result of POTUS failure to lead. Thus his failure to lead now = shutdown and last time I checked he is a republican. Thus, current shutdown is GOPs fault per the president’s own words.

If this is untrue, why do you disagree so violently with your Dear Leaders own words? Or is it that we just need completely one party control of the government like they have in communist countries? Is that your solution? If so, why do you hate American ideals and Democracy so much?

But they didn't even have 51 yes votes from Republicans on this funding plan.

They only had 51 total yes votes because a handful Democrats voted yes.

End the filibuster rule and those Dems might change their vote.

And it would take away future leverage for any Republican minority.

My guess is that this all ends when Trump really gets an itch to golf in Florida and agrees to anything so he can leave town.

This is incorrect. The 60 votes are a rule and not a law. It can be killed. It was recently partially killed for Supreme Court nominations by the republicans, and some other part was killed by the Democrats previously. The filibuster rule is misused and grinds the government to a halt. The reason senators do not want to nuke this option is because they feel they can have a voice when they are in the minority. Both sides are thinking about day in the future when they are not in control. I believe Republicans or Democrats should have a right to govern like they wish. All this filibustering hides the politian's true intentions. The Republicans can not be responsible for the shutdown when Schumer is taking credit for it all over the place. I wonder sometimes if libs really believe the nonsense they post here.

I will tell you how it will end. They Democrats will vote for a CR and leave the DACA and Dreamers issues aside. They don't have a choice. You realize they are shutting down the government for illegal aliens? They only people that care about this is politicians. I'm all for resolving the DACA issues, but the wall will be built. It is inevitable. The Wall, and some sort of citizenship/non citizenship and chain migration will be negotiated. Immigration to the US will continue.

Because once Dems are in control they simply destroy everything the Repubs did. No more gerrymandering. No more republican "non-profits. No more anything for Republicans. The get fired comment is hyperbole. I think Trump believes he needs to lead the government out of this mess. He interrupted his great party down in Florida to fix this issue. This "weekend shutdown" will be resolved, either by the senate themselves, or by the nuclear option. The Democrats have 0 leverage.

Can you please back up your statement with some facts. Everything you said here is wrong. Path to citizenship? Do you even know what DACA is and why is was created? You are a blue stain.

BTW: There is no amnesty for "illegals." There is a path to citizenship for children brought to this country by their parents who are illegals.

Your correct, I think, about how this will end...I.e. a CR and no resolution for DACA. But, you are wrong about responsibility for the shutdown and that “the Dems are doing this for illegals”. Per Trump 2013, government shutdowns are the result of the POTUS failure to lead and this shutdown is clearly his fault for being evasive and unclear about what he wants. McConnell and Graham have both said this at various points about Trump. Trump is an idiot and does not understand about 90% of the job he was elected to do. The 10% he does understand is all political and marketing—you know the stuff that we all hate about politicians—that’s the only stuff Trump is good at doing. Governing and getting stuff done is not Trump’s strong point.

True but Trump is only looking out for Trump, so he could care less about the future of the GOP or America for that matter. He wants a check box checked, doesn’t matter how. Whoever thinks for a second Republicans were not ready to get a deal through and avoid shutdown are clueless, Trump once again trumped himself, hos party and his country.

Now you sound like Flagpole when you say Democrats have 0 leverage.

The leverage is that the Republicans want the government open and and all they have to do is agree to pass a bill that is popular among the vast majority of Americans.

If Dems agree to long term funding to keep the government open, that leverage goes away.

DACA ends March 5 and that is a non threating deadline to Republicans.

They don't care if that date passes and people get deported.

But they do care about the government being open.

So now is the one point of leverage for Dems.

If that is what Trump actually meant (because evidently we cannot actually believe the actual words he used) then why isn’t he leading? Even top Republicans don’t understand what he wants and have said as much. Trump is not some genius no one understand, he’s a blathering idiot who apparently says things he doesn’t mean and waits for others to tell him what his opinions and positions should be—that is not leadership it’s incompetence.

Amazing thing about this is that a compromise is really not that hard. Even two polar opposites like Gary and myself agreed on a compromise bill.

That bill would be: CHIP + DACA + wall + no chain + no lottery

Gary never actually responded to the CHIP part, but I assume he'd be OK with it as part of a compromise bill.

This is absolutely correct. Dems do have leverage and they are using it. March 5th is fast approaching and DACA related issues need to be addressed soon. The overwhelming majority of voters (something like 75%) support allowing the DACA recipients to stay which is why it was possible for Senate leaders to get a bipartisan deal ready (which Trump rejected). The problem here is clearly Trump and his lack of understanding of any issues really. He is simply being told what to do by hardliners like Cotton and Miller. He is playing to his racist base with his apparent resistance to a DACA fix even though deep down he problem either doesn’t care either way or simply doesn’t understand the real issue.
