Of course it's robust because of that one-to-one relationship, at least with a stable population. In fact, with people having fewer and fewer children, it's the opposite of a Ponzi scheme. Think about how Social Security is underfunded because the baby boomer population was relatively larger than later generations that are still paying into SS. That's why decreasing population is a problem here and in places like Japan, China, and other countries. If the generations following the boomers were just as big, there would be enough tax payers to pay for Social Security. Well, Seth having a lot of kids increases the population of future tax payers who will be needed in the future to pay for schools in an era of families having fewer and fewer children. That's also why we should welcome immigrants.

I don't pay any less in local taxes because I don't have any children. My property tax wouldn't be higher if I had one kid, or two, or three. So it's already set up that way. It's just the cost of living in society. Imagine if there were no public schools, and everyone had to pay for their education as they go. Society would suck. We'd have a much larger population of unschooled people - the majority would be unschooled. Think of the implications. Crime would shoot up, wages go down, the number of qualified people for good jobs would go way down, the number of good jobs would go down, etc. It would be the exact recipe for a country to go from first world to third world.

He was talking about cross training, and said that three NCAA football players were put on bedrest for 3 weeks, and decades later, it was like they had aged considerably.

I think he was trying to say that even if you get injured, you should, you know. Move around? Cutting edge science right there.

This whole discord thing is interesting, I didn't know that existed. It explains a lot, Seth has curated an echo chamber of people who are literally paying to interact with him. No wonder he becomes more smug and insufferable day by day and believes he can basically do no wrong. He's got a private little community of people prone to parasocial relationships to heap praise on upon him for him to lord over.

I wonder what the affect of that decision will be on the channel long term. On the one hand, those people are the whales who pay money for something as stupid as emojis, so it makes sense to try to extract as much money from them as possible. On the other hand, it's probably stunting his channel growth. Seth is probably too stupid to realize the fanatic followers are not representative of the average viewer who stumbles across his channel, and by catering to them it likely will alienate the majority of normal, well-adjusted people.

I wouldn't be surprised if that community is like the forcing function that caused Seth to lean so hard into his caricature of a personality with the stupid voice and all the catch phrases and whatnot, since I bet he perceived (discerned? Lol) that they like it and are all about that cringe, over-the-top positivity.

Seth's message today: I am not going to cross-train "too hard" as I have done in the past.

All this guy does is preach about his "aerobic engine." Now he is swimming laps in a 25m pool and doing general core work.

When I developed a small stress fracture in my foot a couple years ago, I cross-trained in the pool doing intense aqua-jogging with no float for 2 hours, sometimes twice a day. I was back to racing in about 6 weeks, I had not lost any fitness, and it was actually a nice break because I was injured in the dead of summer, so I missed a lot of the hot runs while injured.

The main difference? I was really motivated to return. I watched my diet, kept the weight off, and I made sure I was working twice as hard while not running. This is what you have to do. I recently listened to Sean Brosnan talk on the FinalSurge podcast about how he made his team cross-train: intensely! Duh, there is no secret here.

Quit talking about your aerobic engine. It's rapidly diminishing while you gain weight and play around at the pool. Get some actual work in and put the camera away.

What type of cross training did you do? I've never quite understood what is involved.

I'm trying to see the joke here? Or did you really just not absorb the post you read but somehow saw a word that triggered some question and then asked it? What happened there? I'm curious how you missed the answer to your question, which he clearly wrote in his post, and it was the only sentence that could also have lead to you asking about cross training - where he specifically said how he cross trained.

Re cross training, I know more than a handful of competitive runners in the greater DC area who also ride Elliptigo bikes to supplement their running to take some beating off their legs. Elliptigos are not cheap, but you can often find some on Craigslist. I don't have one, but I have tried someone else's and it's a really good workout, and gives the same experience of running outside by being able to enjoy the scenery/landscape as you go. It takes a little time to get used to the standing up while also going fast sensation.

I would watch Seth riding an ElliptiGO while filming himself with a GoPro, with a drone flying overhead through downtown Denver.

Didn’t Seth used to get free range, locally sourced eggs for his family for quite a while years ago? this may explain a lot.

Lap swimming is quite good for your aerobic engine. I basically beat all my running PR’s when I incorporated 2 days of swimming into my week while maintaining running volume. I’d typically swim 2500-3000 yards a session.

Now you’re correct in that you have to be intentional with your sessions and not play around, but swimming is great for building your aerobic base.
