Griffin Kushen will be joining Fitchen-Young at Duke‼️
I understand that Duke has great academics (great is probably putting it lightly) but their distance program has a notoriously bad reputation right now. What are they selling these guys on?

The opportunity to build a dynasty from the ground up.
Same pitch Vin used at Stanford over 30 years ago to recruit Greg Jimmerson, then the Hauser twins, et al. when he set about reviving that men's program.

Even if they become like Jackson Heidesch and are basically always injured and never race they still will get a degree from a great school while hopefully having fun with other stuff so it looks like running is not their #1 priority

Bro, their top run didn't break 19:00 at SJS. They're gonna get destroyed.
Not in D4 they won’t. It’s not terribly competitive and the depth is zero. That move down a division for Placer girls is treating them well and they have a shot at a podium spot.
Interesting that dyestat seems to think Trabuco is better than Buchanan. Rich seems to think Buchanan will take the win at state. Sounds like it could be anyone’s race-which will be exciting to watch.
I would like to highlight Rich calling out Oakdale's state performance: "Has the door also now opened for Oakdale to work more of its late-November magic as seen in recent years?" I would definitely not be surprised to see them podium. D3 might be the closest team race, there is no clear favorite. Oakdale was unranked when they finished 4th in 2021, ranked 2nd when they won in 2022, and ranked 2nd when they got 2nd last year. They definitely seem to perform at state, maybe the youth of the team will change things, or maybe another team will separate themselves from the pack. I wouldn't be too quick to rule Oakdale out.

Trabuco has better front runners and Buchanan has more depth
Appears there are up to 10 boys capable of breaking 14:50 tomorrow. Expect a few others to break 15:00 as well. May set a record for most sub-15s at the state meet.
However, only 5 individual Qs for NXN which go to the 5 fastest not on Q Teams in the merged results. Thus, every race featuring these runners will be all-out time trials.
Note that the final race of the day is D5 boys . . . featuring Pretre & Bouie, two of the nation's best. Both on teams contending for the D5 title but not in the mix for a Team Q to NXN. Meaning, going into their race, these two will know how fast they need to run to make the top-5 Q cutoff. Thus, they'll have figured out how fast they need to be at the 1 mile and 2 mile timing sites to give themselves a chance to hit those time goals at the end. Likely means they will work together until kicking at the end.

Does anyone know what the current record is? My first guess is 2021, with 8.

States Boys Top 10 Prediction: Eli Fitchen-Young: 14:33 Griffin Kushen: 14:36 Trey Caldwell: 14:39 Landon Pretre: 14:39 Broen Holman: 14:40 Aydon Stefanopoulos: 14:42 Tyler Daillak: 14:44 Evan Noonan: 14:46 Eyan Turk: 14:50 Benjamin Bouie: 14:50 Times may seem fast but most of them are quite close to their PRs or make sense given recent performances/previous season peaks.
