Ive seen more people get hired straight out of college this year than ever before. why is that?
Lot of departments are lowering pay to allocate resources for rev share in other sports. So you can justify no experience if the pay or position is entry level.
What is the deal with UC Davis? I've heard that 2 highly experienced coaches have inquired, one local and one from the east coast. No return correspondence or reply by the Director of X-C/Track and Field or the AD. Looking at the previous coaches, the two coaches inquiring are light years better with WAY MORE experience. Just like the Nevada Reno gig, look at who's running the show. Not seeing any love for the distances.
They COULD be taking the Petersons positions from 2 distance spots to 1 distance and 1 add'l track position but don't quote me on that. Having a director with no oversight over XC is weird in this era.
SCAD Savannah has a head coach position coming available
I take this back. Sounds like SCAD Savannah and SCAD Atlanta will be combining programs on the Atlanta campus next fall and Savannah rides with an interim for the time being
They give zero money to any kids that aren't distance runners.

They will just keep Shaddy there because he's fast. Doesn't matter if he doesn't know how to coach.

Yep! 100%! Did they not learn anything from the Bernard Lagat experiment at Arizona? The kicker is that one of coaches interested IS/WAS much faster than Shaddy, has High School, D-1, and professional experience both as a coach and athlete. Again, the optics of this are horrible. Clearly, the Director of the program is biased toward the sprints, jumps and hurdles. The sad thing is that UC Davis is a great school and great place to train, with a strong distance running community who would support the program. Oh well...
Re: hires straight out of college - It seems like it’s happening a lot at the D1 level. I wouldn’t be surprised if schools are intentionally doing that as they’re forced to tighten their belts and make tougher choices with the settlement in place. Why hire a coach with 15 years of experience and have to pay them $70k when you can hire someone with little to no coaching experience and pay them half? Especially if, as a department, you don’t actually prioritize the success of those teams, and you only care that they a) have a coach and b) keep bringing in student-athletes. Not saying this is every place (or even any place), but I wouldn’t be surprised if that becomes more of a trend moving forward.
These guys are getting entry level jobs, helping out the primary coach for that event group, or doing the bulk of the operations work, or recruiting, or whatever else needs doing. None of these straight-out-of-college hires are the ones calling the shots

They are moving to the mwc. that may be why they are changing focus. fewer teams in the mwc care about track - the altitude teams tend to be more distance focused.
