I don't think anyone cares if you ran for your HS or not. Kids are free to run for a club or to run on their own or to go pro or to graduate early and head off to college. It sounds like you are defensive about your decision/

Ran in VA in the mid 80's my school coaches didn't know a lot. During my senior season of indoor where we had no coaching but were still allowed to compete I sought out a good local coach who was working with a sub 4 miler. Back then it wasn't Loudon Valley it was Woodbridge who were the dominant force in distance running in VA. Helmer ran a great program.

At the time no colleges were interested in me and I was going to be another member of my family who wouldn't go to college. Well new coach gave me some confidence and won a few state distance titles.

This allowed me to run fast enough to get a scholarship. I finished my degree and now give back to the sport through my private coaching business in the southern hemisphere.

In the country that I live in if junior athletes aren't happy with my coaching they are free to go to the coach down the road. That is fine but it also challenges me everyday to make sure that I am getting the best out of them to help them achieve their goals.

Joan Hunter glad you are doing what you are doing to help the possible future of your athletes. Few will get scholarships, even fewer will win national titles but all will benefit from the passion that you bring to the sport.

Isn't that what it is all about as coaches? Helping young people achieve THEIR goals?

Dude nobody runs the 10k in high school...there's a reason why that is the only school record you have. If kids took that event serious and it was contested at events regularly, you likely wouldn't even be top 20 in your school's history. That guy didn't even post his PRs and you are assuming you are way faster than him. You probably ran a 31:56.
