2018 College Track & Field Open Coaching Positions Discussion

No rules are "passed" at convention. They are proposed, they are discussed, they seek approval or disapproval of the executive committees of both the cross country group and the track and field group, as well as the general body of the cross country coaches and the track coaches.

There are multiple layers of approval from the NCAA that must occur for any proposal that has the weight of approval from the USTFCCCA to be enacted.

There have been PLENTY of proposals with near unanimous support of coaches and executive committees that never become reality.

This year we had the delightful situation of a room full of coaches both approving and disapproving the SAME PROPOSAL within a matter of 30 minutes. Cross county voting goes one way, track and field voting goes the other way. BUT, IT WAS THE SAME COACHES VOTING.

So just because the track coaches want more coaches, doesn't mean the NCAA wants more coaches, and doesn't mean your administration wants to pay more coaches.

Good points. You can find many schools who do not employ the maximum allowable coaches. Happens all the time, unfortunately

What is the maximum amount of coaches for a combined program and for a single gender program?

6 for combined gender

3 for single gender

paid "Countable" coaches that can recruit and coach

whats the word on riverside?

Any word on the Minot State job? Season resumes soon....still have the old coach listed on roster.

Surely Iowa would never post a position with the understanding that it is only meant for a female ...

Wow. Just finished the report. I know all the accusations are not sustainable but wow.....what a scumbag. He shouldn't even get another coaching job. I knew people from BYU that thought he was crazy but I didn't he was this crazy

A majority of the 18 allegations were substantiated. The one about him choosing the prettier female recruits if all else is equal is cringeworthy, but everything else noted, some of which Shane admitted to, are nails in his coffin for sure. I can't believe he'd try to sue the university.

I think guy the has a legit case. Depends how is contract is.. if its an at-will contract probably doesn't have much of a case. I'm not sure if EWU is much of religous school or not but that might play a factor in some cases if its stated in the contract about behavior. Some of those comments if they were legitamely said the whole team would remember them. Not comments you would forget. I think some of it is being really picky and petty. Washington is an extremely liberal state so that could be a part of it. I'm sure there was inappropriate language said or inappropriate jokes but your going to have to fire half of the coaches in the country if you think about it. Go to a football practice you'll hear a lot worse in an hour.. I think if HR didn't come in and warn him then I think he has a legitmate beef.

A coach talking about iron or calcium or a multi-vitamin could easilly be mistaken for talk about PED's by a student-athlete that doesn't already like him.

I don't know the guy but I'm guessing he has some legit complaints depending on his contract and if there were proper steps taken about warning him about behaivor.

My understanding is that former Olympic Coach Kent Pagel is the front runner to get the job at UCR. He's got a great resume!

Look at the claims he admitted to and don’t believe anything else if you want. He dug his own grave over a couple year period and now it’s there waiting for him. He will never win that case. Who talks like that to a 60 year old bus driver they’ve never met? He needs to take a step back and chill out a bit before he’s ready to be a role model. I’m sure he can evolve and contribute positively, but generally that takes some time to get true perspective.

What’s going on at LSU? Looks like they’re still without a throws coach.

If you take a look at the history of cc/track coaches filing lawsuits, the success rate is not very good. Everyone is allowed to have their day in court so Shane is very perfectly within his rights. One problem he has is that you is as arrogant as all get out which he needs to put in check.
