It was horrible to watch. I remember feeling the same way when that female cyclist crashed in Rio. Felt like witnessing serious physiological, and even neurological, damage.

I was screaming at the screen for Kam to keep him in sight and not let him get away. I'm so glad and relieved he's fine and was walking around unaided at the finish.

I was worried about him as well and wondered if he might die. Somehow he made it to the finish and that proved to be very important as he got his team a bronze.

Apparently the IAAF hasn't published the resutls on line and the race has been over for hours so here are the top 5 men's team and top 30 individuals.

Solid run from Sam Chelenga. Just misses top 10

That is depth, Kenya had the 2nd and 5th place teams. Along with many other individuals sprinkled throughout.

Seems like some of the top US NCAA guys like Fisher and Erb (that finished that NCAA XC final not more than 35-36 seconds from Tiernans time) could have finished well here. Tiernan beat most of the US-Kenyans by a similarly wide margin. Why would NCAA guys have no interest in this world event? SImply because it doesnt fit with the training schedule?

In the NBC Sports broadcast it is clear that Cheptagai got a supportive push from behind by a Ugandan teammate. It was about 800 from the finish and had no realistic bearing on his finish, but it was surely against IAAF rules. He and the athlete who provided the aid should be DQ'd with Eritrea getting the team bronze.

Very funny video. The scenes look very chaotic. People chasing Cheptegei all over the track with Ugandan flags. Then he gets passed and people start chasing Kamworor around with a Kenyan flag. And how do the judges keep up with the lap count? There is too many racers being overlapped.

That is awesome the way that all these guys carrying flags are somehow able to keep up with Kamworor for long stretches. That is a country with depth.

I was thinking that, too. Not even the guys NOT carrying flags.

There was a funny scene towards the end when the Kenyan flag carrier almost ran it up the backside of a female spectator.

Somehow I knew he would say something like this:

"I knew he would get tired. His pace was too high "

This is a fantastic run by Tiernan, the best result of his young career I think. Put into context, he is the first non-afrincan born runner I believe, the second is Scott Fauble in 36th. Top running by the Aussie.
