A few years ago there was a guy writing as a Brit attending Notre Dame. He wrote funny bits about partying, training and scoring. Someone pointed out that he was copying a more established author's style but the thread readers didn't seem to mind because he was so funny.
I ran a Message Board search but honestly I don't recall any exact phrases except the use of a word that I think was "roish".
Anyone?
I should have done this years ago...my 13:54 was handtimed, and I was actually wearing sketchers racing flats.

As I walked down the busy sidewalk, knowing I was late for an important
interview, my eye fell upon one of those unfortunate, homeless vagabonds
that are found in every city these days.
Wearing what can only be describes as rags, carrying every worldly
possession in two plastic bags, my heart was touched by this persons condition.
Some people turned to stare. Others quickly looked away as if the sight would
somehow contaminate them.
Recalling some long ago Sunday School admonition to "care for the sick,
feed the hungry and clothe the naked," I was moved by some powerful inner
urge to reach out to this unfortunate person.
Yes, where some people saw only rags, I saw a hidden beauty.
A small voice inside my head called out,
"Reach out, reach out!"
So I did..........

The posers who act like road races pay writers and camera operators when I have never paid for a race report, video stream, or finish picture in over 30 years.
I remember an awesome hypothetical story about Alan Webb first going to Salazar. Salazar wanted him to do the 30/40 workout with Galen and he eventually quit to go eat a big mac. I've searched for the thread but I can't find it, unfortunately. If anyone else remembers it please let me know.
