I can't believe this thread continues to have legs. One of the worst I've read on LRC.

Ummm this wasn't my post. But I'll look over this post again to see in a couple days if anyone responds objectively to what I again have restated of what happened. Since people are choosing to only to knit pick through the information to present an ill informed argument.
And as to the breeds of the dogs the 10lb dog is a terrier mix she looks like this
http://www.justdogbreeds.com/cairn-terrier.html, and the 20 lb dog is also a terrier mix and he looks like this second dog picture
http://www.justdogbreeds.com/jack-russell-terrier.html.
And to the person who is posting under various pseudonyms and even my post name... go back to PBS. You know who you are.

You are totally clueless. "What happened" is what happened only in your mind. Please ask the senile old man to post his version of "what happened" on LRC. Then people can respond objectively, except you, who are incapable of objectivity.
et voila! the right answer

I don't know if the man who kicked your dog was justified or not, having only your side of the story. But you were definitely in the wrong for being too ignorant to train your dogs to behave properly in public; for taking ill-behaved dogs out in public; and for thinking that someone should allow himself to be threatened or attacked by a dog without responding accordingly.
Did it look like this? (See video at 1m10s)

If a dog rears up on his hind legs and comes at you, you have every right to defend yourself.
There's no guarantee that the leash won't snap or that the owner will lose grip.
And this year's POY (pus$y of the year) award goes to Randy "watch out for that 35 lb beast" Oldman. Congrats Randy! Now come on down & pick up your medal, you big pus$y.
Please learn to spell "pussy" correctly. Thank you.

Thanks for the info 800. Its obvious that I won't be walking past the old man's home when my I walk my dogs anymore. And as for the phone call I had with animal control, they sided with me.
recap for those who are misconstruing what exactly happened
1. I was walking my dogs which are 10 lbs and 20 lbs past the owner's house.
2. my dogs were barking at the kid, and since he was kid not only a child but alone outside I made sure to keep walking until out of that small area
3. The dogs were not within reaching distance of the kid, and were on a leash(one that retracts for my smaller 10lb dog and the other one which I further wrap my hand around, in which i did).
4. The old man heard my dogs came out yelled at me to stop(now looking back I could have avoided this, but I didn't want to just ignore the dude completely after turning back to see who was shouting for me to stop). So he walked towards me and basically told me to train my dogs. I did agree with him( all meanwhile my dog is now barking at the guy as we talk for 10 seconds or so
5. End of conversation and I'm about to walk away. He has a irritated/annoyed look...looks at my dog immediately kicks him with NO WARNING.
6. I then step in front of my dog and have now both of them behind me and basically told him to NEVER kick my dog again.
7. The guys face turns from irritated to worried/surprised when I begin to tell him off and question why he did what he did? He doesn't respond and he gradually walks away when his family comes to tell me off.
8. I tell her off when she starts cursing at me and I walk away
This makes it a little more clear, and if it did go down like that, then I say you did nothing wrong and that the old guy was 100% in the wrong.
LOLS. It actually happened unless you'd like to prove otherwise. Keep posting under different names sir.
It looks like you are in a neighborhood of dog haters. What he did was clearly wrong, but you should have a way to stop your dog from barking immediately, something like a stop command. Training your dog is a must if you do not ever want this to happen again.

it is quite clear to me that a lot of folks on this thread let someone's potential shortcomings as a dog owner trigger kneejerk moralism, and extremely dubious moralism at that. it's not above you to throw an animal into traffic? filthy animals? the kind of language you use here says a lot about how pitiful you could be. who is 'filthy'?
Yes, because the child was getting attacked. They're dogs, they get excited. Yes, they shouldn't have jumped, but he shouldn't have kept moving closer, and the dog owner was on the sidewalk anyways, which is public property and not the land on which the grandfathers apartment is on. He cannot have any claims that he was being attacked on his property, and being jumped at but not on is two different things. I've looked into these things before, and it is quite obvious you haven't.
No one knows how old the dogs are, if he just got then, or if he is able to even leave them in the house to use the bathroom or not. It's quite wrong to assume that an owner is at fault, though he should train them. But no one should kick a dog unless he was on him. If the law is looked into in multiple states, jumping at them while on a leash does not call for that kind of reaction especially since he came to them, not them to him.
Actually, the man with his dogs walked away before the grandfather came over and kicked his dog, so that is not on him, that is assault against the dog. The older man came to them and kicked them, they did not attack him.
If you read, the old man came to him. He told him to stop, so instead of ignoring the guy and being rude, he stayed for a moment and the old man came to him.
Then you must be one stupid human yourself because you cannot read. The man came to the dog, not the dog to the man. He secured them so the dogs could not reach the child. What dog doesnt get excited sometimes?
You obviously misinterpreted everything and are clearly an animal hater
If you dont like society now, go somewhere else. No one honestly cares about smoking in public and it affects multiple people anyways. And to me, you seem like the biggest nuisance. Learn to spell before trying to tell someone off.
WTF?
