Dartmouth used to be the only ivy league university that maintained conservative principles. Since Obama mania has taken over, vitimization and pussilanimous whining rule the day.

I think what happened here is Jimmy was reading the old thread on how to celebrate winning your local turky trot and took it to heart. Lets just be thankful Jimmy didn't take out his junk and taunt the other competitors. It would have been awesome if he blew the smoke off of invisible six shooters though.

Watched the race, no reason for a DQ. I liked the Artest analogy earlier.

He got DQ'd because he's a prick, not because he did anything illegal. There were no other fouls in the race.

So when a black man like Usain celebrates 1/4 of the race distance from the finish it's cool but when a white guy like Wyner does it 1/30 of the distance from the finish he's an ass? Racist!

Tigerfan - I think you have missed the point of what I said here.

My point is that all this imagined drama is just that - imagined.

Amirault didn't do anything majorly wrong, and was not trying to knock anyone down.

Miller didn't do anything wrong, and was not trying to knock anyone down.

Wyner had a crazy celebration but was not bowing to his competitors.

People are reading way too much into this incident, the actual RUNNERS involved in this are personal friends.

For me the interesting thing here is the Harry Groves element. I've only observed the guy from a distance, but from how folks have spoken about him here (true reverence for the guy) it would seem out of character for him to DQ the Wyner, a little to pussy-like. In fact, if there was a discussion between the three referees I would suspect that there may have been disagreement between them. My impression of the man is that Coach Groves would have disapproved of the behavior but dealt with it in a different fashion.

Possible Scenario:

Groves to Powell: "We're not going to DQ him, but I want you to take care of that little p****."

Powell to Groves: "Don't worry, I'm going to say f*** to him a minimum of seven times. Kind of like a ramped up team meeting."

Groves to Powell: "I like your style. Put a hammer thrower or two on him as well."

Jimmy got DQ'ed because he is from Cornell.

Let's not even get started on what would likely happen if some thugs had attacked someone in the most athletic (as recently demonstrated) group of people in quite a large radius.

How can you be disappointed in a coward? The brothers maintain this site, and when it comes time for Rojo to put a little official perspective on it from the view as the athlete's coach, and as a site owner, he has a puss out moment and doesn't say a word. That is significant because he has a forum that allows absolute outright character assassination of coaches and athletes, and he's afraid to hang it out there a little by saying a few words on the matter. To any casual fan without a stake in (f***ing) Ivy League track, this was awesome. The guy backed up his celebration as he did it, and then taunted the crowd that taunted him.

In any other sport this would just be an awesome victory, but here in track and field you're all about one step from the "won't someone think of the children!?" argument. Kudos.

There are some people who think Bolt's antics were excessive, too. But Bolt didn't appear to taunt his competitors or any fans after the race finished. I am guessing that it was the bow that got Wyner DQed. Even if he didn't intend to taunt, it certainly could have looked that way.

The feel from watching Bolt's celebration was that he was celebrating himself, celebrating his own strength and speed, his own victory. The feel from watching Wyner is that he's celebrating being better than his opponents, being able to throw up the number one and cruise down the home straight because those losers couldn't possibly catch up. When you win a race you can celebrate, celebrate the hard work you put in and your thankfulness; you can't celebrate your competitors' inferiority. It makes you look like a very little man. Act like you've been there before, especially when you haven't. The truly great winners out there are the humble ones, the ones who compete for the sake of achievement, not for the sake of trumping the best efforts of others. Would I have DQ'd him? No. Do I disagree with the decision? Not sure. Do I feel one iota of sympathy for him? Not at all.

To the genius who asked if anyone criticizing him knows Jimmy, the answer is yes. We all do. Because we've seen how he acted in the race. Even if 100% of the rest of his actions are wonderful, in that race he is a jackass, a jerkoff, a douchebag, and an arrogant asshole undeserving of the chance to compete in the beauty of sport.

This talk of excessive celebration being bad is ridiculous.

If that was the Olympic Trials, it would have been the race shown on SportsCenter.

Whiner put on a show. So what if it was from 80 meters out... he obviously had the race in hand as was demonstrated by the ultimate victory.

The crowd hated it and booed. Classic. That makes great drama. Good for them.

Whiner fought back. Good for him.

Overall, I say we need more of this. Maag should somehow refuse to accept 1st place. And the next guy should also refuse it, and so on and so forth until there is no winner and no finishers.

This type of showboating, gloating, taunting should be encouraged... not looked poorly on.

Turning around and flicking off the field would be different. Celebrating and reacting to the crowd... great entertainment.

I just think its pretty messed up to celebrate like that in a race when one of your teammates is a few steps behind you battling it out for a few points.

You are the reason there is no money in track and field. Shame on your for bringing down the sport to amateur status. "The beauty of the sport." Puhlease. Its running... one foot in front of the next... and it COULD be great entertainment with some personalities like Whiner and LBP.

I hope these non-Cornell Ivy League people realize that they are projecting exactly what they want to see onto Wyner's personality.

I'm sure if Nick Willis ran for Cornell and often beat your guys you would see him as a cocky asshole, a horrible hitler-esque character, what with his 150m long celebration in the indoor mile (this is not an exaggeration) and smirky countenance.

I just showed the people at my office this video - promising them a 'wild celebration' at the end, and after he bowed the woman who sits next to me asked 'when does he start celebrating?'

You really hate Cornell, and you REALLY hate losing to Cornell. That is pretty reasonable, and I'm sure this coming Fall the boards will be once again full of people who hate Princeton as they tote away another Heps XC trophy. ("Oh they are the worst! Oh tehy get so much talent! Oh they are the evil empire!")
