Hello again from London....
This has been a surreal trip for me. I sat at the table next to Haile Gebresellasie's table at breakfast..This guy is my idol. He was friendly and even allowed me to take a picture with him....
Yeah Brent,
I am a doc in Charlotte. I went to medical school at Emory University in Atlanta after running and studying at Butler University in Indianapolis. Go Bulldogs!!!! I do hospitalist and Critical Care Medicine and try to stay away from the "organs of darkness", so I shall be of little help in your OB rotation in Charlotte. I work at Gaston Memorial Hospital just outside Charlotte and also work locums work through the Duke University Health Systems. Brent, send me an email and we will meet up in Charlotte. Hopefully, you can run my charity race "The Grand Garibaldi Run"
www.grandgaribaldirun.com
to benefit uninsured patients. I will waive your entry fee. I know what it is like to be a broke Medical Student....
The Most Surreal Moment in London.....
Paul Tergat, Fasil, me, and my friend from college (James Adduci) are in the elevator....
Paul gets on and presses floor 11..the top floor in the hotel.
Fasil: "They got you one of the good rooms, huh?"
Paul Tergat: "I'm sure all the rooms are nice"
Me: "I bet your room is much nicer than Fasil's room"
James: "Give the guy a break, he only has "The World Record""
--True conversation--
Well this is my last post before Fasil runs tomorrow. It is now 12 noon in London. The start time for the marathon is 9:45 A.M., if you want to guess a time, you have to guess before 4:45 A.M. EST or 1:45 A.M. Pacific Time.
Thanks everyone for guessing. I hope that this has created some interest for American Distance Running at the London Marathon.
Wish Fasil Luck!....I suspect he might be ready for a big breakthrough race....but who knows.....it is the Marathon. Nobody knows what is going to happen...
Cheers!!

”9 minute PR…….”,….. I would think that this might be optimistic…in fact, Our mom might find this time optimistic… I hope you are right, but In fact I think that many of the guesses are skewed to the optimistic end…..I guess that it might be reasonable to skew to the faster times as you are responding to the runner’s brother, but, give your best guess…not best possible scenario guess….

I now suspect a likely clustering of guesses around the guy from MIT as everyone will assume that he got his guess by using a statistical algorithm that plugs in hieght, weight, vital statistics, PRs, prerace diet, climate, # of times getting laid in the past year (Fasil might hurt in this department) and figured a time based on this statistical algorithm………Thanks for the support!

I go to VIC and trained with Fasil, well saw him train, all fall and early winter. The guy is fit and ready to roll. We're all pumped to watch the race live on Sunday morning, I think this is gonna be his big breakthrough! Gametime Fasil... Tell Fasil I'll buy him a burger from the "Burger Bar" if he runs my time or better!

If I win, send the $50 to the track coach at Ben Davis so a needy HS kid can get a pair of shoes. I ran with your old HS coach when I was at IU, and I know someone at your alma mater could use the help - as could any HS. Tall ya what, if I win, I'll match the donation.---great idea

I was a Senior when Biz was a freshman. I remember the schools around Indianapolis always had huge fast teams. Ben Davis, Carmel, etc...and a huge fanbase. The noise at State Cross was deafening. We had 3 regulars on the Clarksville team that year, a small school in the southern part of the state. I don't think we ever had more than 7 runners on a team in the 4 years I was there.
Anyway, I remember in the 3200m that year Biz and some big tall guy running in basketball shorts were duking it out. I led for about 200m during the 6th lap then proceeded to eat dust, Biz and the tall guy took off around me. With 800m to go we all were still pretty tight, no more than 1-2 seconds accross the group. I fell off, finished in 7th, 10 second back. I remember working it out way back then and I think they ran the last 800m in 2:10, I did it 2:20. I think the guy with basketball shorts was able to nip Biz in the end. It's great to see old school Indiana dudes still running well. Most of us are just getting and slow...:)
