She's 16 years old and has led every race shes been in, tough first race against 20 year old Africans
She's running great, not complaining about that. With a more conservative start she could have maybe place a bit higher, but something like top 10 is clearly out of reach. But I just don't understand why people here glorify bad tactics by calling that "brave" or "giving oneself a chance".
“Bad tactics”? She went out with the lead group of about 15 and finished 16th… You think she was going to run them down by starting even more conservative against this field?

Exactly, she was 2nd none Kenyan, Ethiopian, Ugandan. Great race!
Serious question: Did SHK fall or anything like that? Feel like the gap opened up really quickly to 5+ seconds up/down the hill. Seems a bit bizarre for someone with her speed to fall off early versus later in a 2k run. Would've been nice to see how it unfolded.
And according to the splits she ran a full 20 seconds slower than Hull for her lap. That's...not competitive.
Why was Hurta even chosen to be on the team. What a freaking embarrassment for the US

Seemed to work for the Japanese runner who finished 14th. She was 10 seconds behind the leaders at 1k. Seriously, do you think going out at the same pace as people who finish more than 90 seconds before you in a ~20 minute race is optimal pacing?
16th for Bartlett -- second non-African behind Onotara of Japan, a 9:07 3000m runner
I don’t know the splits, but I’m at the race and it seems like Onotara ran a really smart race. She was nowhere near the front early on, but kept picking people off in the last half.
