A professional running career isn't just one race a year. But it would be to a doper. Genuine athletes try to win every time they compete. That's what sportsmen and women do. It isn't just about one cheque.
What is also implausible is that an athlete can be so uncommitted as to be mediocre throughout the year, win nothing, and then become the absolute best in the world in a global championship. It's like transitioning from being a dilettante or a journeyman to becoming the best on the planet overnight. Fake.
Cole ran what would have been an indoor world record at Millrose Games way back in February, had Grant Fisher not beaten him.
There goes your doping theory.
That doesn't end my doping theory. Indoors - whatever. He still lost. Where did Fisher come in the 5k final that Hocker won?
The trials. Big deal. After being beaten yet again in his main event in the trials. Till last night he has won nothing of note since Paris last year. It's so obvious.
National championships aren't international events. He couldn't win the national championships in the event for which he was Olympic champion. That has been consistent with his losing record in the 1500 since Paris last year. Then he gets DQed because he doesn't know the basics of the rules. Fortunately for Hocker lightning strikes once a year - or no one would know who he is.
You forget he's only unstoppable once a year. The rest of the time he can't win a race that matters.
Yeah. And Peter Snell, Olympic Champion by then, lost to a high schooler.
Snell dominated the sport from 1960-64, consistently winning, setting records and never losing a championship final. So you know nothing about the history of the sport.
I don't think I've ever seen people going on this much about peaking and how the only race that matters is a race that's ran less than once a year outside of American runners. Being the best means being able to perform more than once a year. The best runners are the runners who can both run fast times on the circuit and win global medals.
All this talk about how Hocker is the best peaker ever and the best American distance runner and it's referring to a guy who's not even had a better season than Jimmy Gressier.
Was that the most unusual 5000 ever in the history of Track & Field, or am I Captain Insano? For sure, the Americans all ran to the front, and then after the race got rolling, they mostly allowed themselves to be swallowed up at the back. Then Cole Hocker sprinted to victory in the last lap, virtually passing everyone along the way. Basically, he passed every runner twice! I am not complaining, in fact, they probably did it so they could get the all-important "rail' to run on. However, I have never seen that before, even at a distance, and I have been watching the sport for 56 years.
All-time greats win more than they lose. He doesn't. He doesn't win more than one big race in a year. His second name should be Makhloufi.
Like Geordie Makhloufi Beamish?
Because you don't follow track you don't know that Beamish has had a long period away from competition due to injury. That isn't Hocker. He has likely just been off the juice.
HGHocker really is unstoppable. Still don’t know if it was a weak field or if he’s just that good now. Robinson getting 4th would point me to the fact it was weak. Would love to see him do this to the trio of Aregawi-Barega-Kejelcha even though they probably want to go the roads soon.
Ky Robinson ran 7:30i, 12:58 and 3:50y this year and won bronze at World Indoors. He was definitely a dark horse medal contender coming in.
Ethiopia picked their team of Mehary (12:45 sb), Girma (12:46 sb) and Gebrhiwet (12:46 sb) and Ky Robinson beat all of them.
Aregawi was 12th in the 10k, Barega was 6th, Kejelcha has never medaled in the 5k. Not sure why you’d think they were the big boys who could have spoiled Hocker’s party.

Your point here would be valid if I (and other posters in this thread) claimed that Cole now is an all time greatest/GOAT, but that’s not the same as an all time great.
I view e.g Coe as an all time great in the 800m, despite him losing Euros + every global champs he competed in. And Lagat is another athlete with a lot of losses (had to face the Goat El Guerrouj ++) -nevertheless an all time great in my opinion.
Hocker is clearly on his way to an all time great. GOAT? (Well, both El Guerrouj and Bekele lost races, and of course also the pretender Jakob). -But then Cole has to start winning consistently more than losing, and also running faster times -but steadily pr’ing and winning one of the most important races each year is a good start.
how about if a poster gets ratioed say 10 to 1, the post along with comments is deleted automatically.

You're unaware that free speech, which this place stands for, is not a popularity contest. You need to join a cult.
I mean you’re free to say whatever ya like but if it’s completely braindead then people’s responses are gonna reflect that.
Also, an athlete not being universally dominant every time he sets foot on the track just means his event is super competitive. That is objectively a good thing — makes the sport more interesting for viewers, less predictable, etc. If you’re actually a track fan, you should want competitive races.
Wow! They solved autism just like that, did they? Incredible. But I guess its too late for all the people posting here.
Of course, on the list of diseases/conditions currently plaguing public health, i dont think autism is anywhere close to the top. Maybe instead of cutting hundreds of millions for cancer research, they could try to solve that one instead? As a self-proclaimed medical expert, I suspect the cause is toothpaste.

Your level of butthurt is truly a sight to behold, and extraordinarily entertaining to watch in the same way zit-popping videos are entertaining.
