No. The line should be *significantly* less. Again, there is zero proof that any given individual, particularly outlier athletes, can’t react faster.
We need to stop illegitimately disqualifying people for having a good, proper reaction to the gun.

Devon Allen got screwed because the timing system was wonky.

They need to stop with this junk science .100 rule. The science behind that is based on the general population. These are outlier athletes in the first place. There is simply no proof or reliable evidence that an athlete cannot react at .099.
It take's sound 0.029 seconds for sound to travel 10m, so covering at least to lane 8. So there has to be some limit or it's just guessing.
0.1 may be too high but most don't fail at that limit.
Maybe a re-evaluation to see what they average at the elite end but I can't imagine it would be much lower.

he should honestly have a lawsuit on his hands. that was life changing stuff
Lets see what crazy pace Tsegay sets today

You know you're a track fan when you're up at this hour watching the women's 1500m heats.
Nah, real track fans woke up in the middle of the night to watch the 35km race walk
Chebet should just push this from the off, no point making it a burn up.
Looking forward to seeing how angry Tsegay runs, funniest athlete on the circuit.
counted 14 women eliminated from the 1500m heats with a 4:10 or slower.
This is why I refuse to watch this. If you can't break 4:10 you are NOT going to be anywhere near a medal. This isn't tennis where some low-ranked dark horse can show up and win the French Open. This is you physically are incapable of competing at this level and should not be there.
Putting the faster runners through heats just to achieve the inevitable elimination of the hopelessly slow runners puts the lie to the "world championship." When the contenders face off in the final, they won't be at their best. That is ridiculous and has to end, or the sport will always fail.
Aaaaaaand it's a jogfest

Worst ever worlds.
Crouser takes over the lead on attempt #2
80 degrees, 86% humidity. Tough 10K conditions
The sound travel and physical reactions that have to happen inside the body before enough pressure can be put on the block to trigger a start makes a start take at least about 0.08. 0.1 is an arbritary number picked because it's nice and even but it's not impossible to start in 0.099. I think WA knows this and that's why they're lenient with these kinds of starts.

Weather.com states these conditions feel like 88 deg F.
As has previously been stated, the word to use to describe this is "brutal."
5:00 for 1600 but with humidity not that bunched up.
7:27 at 2400
Japanese doing their thing at the front.
Nice norwegian singles subthreshold session for Chebet today
Humidity and heat is destroying a few legs.
Dunno if this has been mentioned, but the new World Athletics results page sucks balls. Just awful.
At least Hironaka is keeping it from being a jog and sprint race.
