Jakob Ingebrigtsen is great at championship 5000m races not because he is lucky with how his opposition has turned out (lol???) but because in addition to being the fastest 1500m runner in the field, he can likely run the fastest 5000m in the field too (at least sub 12:40). You cannot out kick a 3:26.73 athlete when he can also run 7:17.55 with a 1:52.91 last 800m and sub 12:40. In a championship 5000m with no pacing and wave light the race will naturally be slower ie 13:00-13:30 (fastest ever 5000m in a championship race was 2003 - 12:52). Ethiopian, Ugandan, Kenyan, and other athletes who can run 26:30 and 12:40 but cannot run a fast 1500m or 3000m will always be vulnerable in a championship 5000m against a 3:26, 7:17 athlete, especially when he can also run minimum 12:40. It’s not just about Jakob Ingebrigtsen being lucky, it’s his skill set.
