Having multiple close family members and friends in D.C. (none of whom describe the city with apocalyptic exaggerations like you) and frequently visiting for personal and professional reasons gives me a perfectly legitimate basis for my opinion.
But again, what you are describing is NOT a public emergency. They are crimes and there are crimes everywhere. But car jackings, muggings, and teenagers riding dirt bikes on the streets is a job for the local police NOT the United States military. Obviously! This has ALWAYS been the case.
This thread is almost 10 pages and not one of you brownshirts have provided a legitimate argument for the creation of an indefinite police state in the nation's capitol. At what point will crime rates in DC no longer merit this state of emergency? At what point does "crime" in other cities trigger an expansion of this new federal police state? You can't say! It's all vibes! And you'll accept any justification.
The impetus for this unprecedented fascist power grab was a DOGE staffer getting mugged. Think about that. Imagine if a Republican politician gets a milkshake thrown at them in NYC or something; they'll have tanks rolling through Times Square. This isn't about crime whatsoever, it's about violent intimidation of Trump's political opponents and you all know it.
The states/localities that fail to worship at the altar of Trump will see his tubby, masked foot soldiers stop-and-frisk every registered Democrat they can get their hands on. Maybe cart them off and rough them up to teach them a lesson. Maybe send them to El Salvador "on accident". Who knows? This is a zero accountability, full impunity environment Trump is cultivating. Constitutional rights are a thing of the past.
