Has anyone mentioned the fact that he was able to do this in his 3rd 800 in 4 days? Makes it all the more shocking. Never would’ve thought a 16 year old on relatively low mileage would be able to handle rounds that well.
And also he was able to handle a bigger pack in the semi and final. He blew out the competition for most of hs and this was the first time he’s ever raced these guys.

You’re underrating what the pure hate channeled directly towards Hoey would do to lift him through the last 100m. Lutkenhaus disguises his pure hate very well, but we may have finally witnessed what happens when someone is able to channel pure hate for an entire 800 at the elite level. He just set a new standard for the Pure Hate 8!
Um, cooper L. just ran faster than any American in history had run prior to late twenty twenty four. He is currently just a half second off the american record. As a HS SOPHMORE!
Yes, that is as good as or better than Jim Ryun....Timmy.
You have no ability to understand context. You must have gotten through school via grade-flation. You literally have the brains of a street Tyrone. lol

Incredibly convincing argument and rebuttal! You literally did not offer up a shred of evidence or reasoning on why I was incorrect. Except.... something vague and cryptic about "context." Bravo 👏 👏

You haven’t shown why you are correct. He took a legit and truthful swipe at you and apparently it went over your head. You’re actually doing a disservice to Coop and Ryun, but you simply aren’t smart enough to see it. Do better!
Unreal, he looks exactly like him, even the same hairstyle. And there's the fact that Ted Meredith was the best in the world at the 400/800. It's too much haha
The obvious American bias is strong on letsrun. But they never give any rational opinions on why he’s possibly clean. All they say is “why would a high schooler take drugs” or they call you rude and stupid. We need a biological passport immediately.
Err, eposedj... You don't immediately get a bio passport, it's markers over a long period of time to detect spikes in blood values that are above average. Probably can't even test a "child" until they're 16 or 18.The kid seemed to have a pretty clean complexion, Could check for back-acne.
Looking at the kid I would bet he's not on steroids/HGH...and I've been around hundreds of guys on steroids/HGH...Even dabbled with Dianabol myself.
the visual is tell tale as is their rection to a hard effort, with super human recovery.
the blood passport is essential.
i consider amino acids, peptides, bicarb, dirian, glandulars, etc. etc. to be soft peds. certain pro biotics produce anabolic respones. argon gas acts like epo, hyperbaric oxygen before a race, with many etceteras.
to ratify any times, the athlete needs testing, and not a one off.
age group records need verification, and not be blocked by politically correct BS.'
athletes should save a urine sample weekly if they wish to compete, say in bigvinternational meets, and their urine samples can be tested if they hit the podium and set records.
wih Luk, we know he ran faster than any Junior on the planet peds or not.
Amos was busted for PEDs and age group violations
no matter how you slice and dice it, this guy is GOAT talent, for his age, and a 139 will make him straight up GOAT.
I have hardly seen a thread on Letsrun that makes me so disgusted with the sheer number of insecure, jealous losers. It's pretty transparent to me actually that insecurity and jealousy are what's driving all these guys whining about doping.
It is not uncommon for people to have a difficulty time accepting that extraordinary talents exist, the presence of talent makes some people feel worse about themselves instead of amazed.
I think it's mostly because the people who get offended have some kind of narcissistic delusion going on that is somehow being threatened.
You can't have been here very long. Threads about doping are the norm. That's normal in a known doped sport.
I don't have any opinion on whether he is doping or not but it's interesting because it exposes the bias of this site and its posters.
If someone said that Charles L. Kipruto, a 16-year-old born in December 2008 had just ran a 1:42 low at Kenyan trials, dropping 5 seconds off his best time in 3 months, then almost 100% of this board would accuse him of doping and/or age cheating.
But because it's an American high-schooler from Texas, everyone is coming to his defense despite the fact that the same (reasonable) doubt would apply to any other athlete exhibiting the same age and freakish time drops.
Also laughable is the assertion that middle schoolers/high schoolers can't be doping, or that USADA is a symbol of the fight against anti-doping. 1) We literally just saw what happened at Montverde with the coach doping athletes to run crazy times (Assinga and Hodge, among others), and subsequently getting suspended. Also, Marion Jones literally had a whereabouts violation in high school which her lawyer got overturned (i.e. she was doping from her high school days) 2) It's been confirmed as fact that USADA literally hides positive doping tests.
Again, I'm not saying Lutkenhaus is or isn't doping but the truth is if it were any athlete with the same profile that was not an American male, there would be serious doubt on the legitimacy of his times and improvement.

It is truly hysterical how little suspicion is being piled on this kid.
Where is the Amby Burfoot analysis of how massive an aberration this performance is?
😆🤷♂️
Will Rojo ask him “What do you say to people who say it’s too good to be true?”
Well, Cooper is only age 16. That's the only fantastic thing in this great performance . The 1:42 is in line with his 46.30 best 400m with the formula 46.30 x 2 + 10 sec ( at most) .....will give 1:42.60 at 'worst' if proper trained for the 800m . So, of course we all understand he can be first man sub 1:40 .
It is crazy that so many people seem to doubt high schoolers dope. Steroids in high school were rampant 20 years ago--I remember two state champion wrestlers everyone knew were on steroids from eighth grade. Also guys on the track with all the signs. Today you would have many more options than just roids, various sarms and peptides etc. Other big young stars like knighton have popped in recent years. There is plenty of incentive for big money, even with well off parents. The fact of having a fast brother means nothing, see above, brothers will dope together. Whether he is clean or not, we will have to wait and see but it won't be surprising if he pops.
....
Back in the 90's (yes I'm an old athlete) I was on a top track club with the top high school graduate who ran 10.13 and he was highly suspected of PED's back in the 90s as a teenager. So teenagers do use PEDs and pass drug tests.
I am guessing you haven't seen him in person. I have seen and photographed him in person the last two years, he looks like a 16 year old teenager, especially when he lines up against the kids in the 400.

True. Look at some of his 400m races. He looks like the youngest kid in the race most of the time.
What’s bothering a lot of the accusers is that Cooper is white. Period. If he weren’t white they would be kissing his feet.
The drug argument needs to go back a few years, because when Cooper was 14 he ran one of the fastest 400m times ever in the US for his age (48.7, less than one second slower than Quincy Wilson's age group record). He also crushed the nation's middle schoolers in the 800 meters, meaning that he had both elite speed and elite strength.
That's the profile of a kid who could become a very special 800m runner. So, I think if the argument is that he couldn't do this performance clean, the argument implicitly is saying that he was doping as an 8th grader.
If don't think there are kids on PEDS in other sports like football at 6th, 7th, 8th grade when they are standouts above their peers & the college coaches start calling....you're out of your mind. I've literally seen it with a classmate.
And go think that wouldn't extend to other sports is short-sighted.
It seems to me the various middle-aged men hiding behind their keyboards and calling out Cooper for doping should be ashamed of themselves. He is a once in a generation talent and I think he is great for US Running Morale.
In terms of his performance, it is our modern-day Jim Ryun 3:55 Mile when you consider how close his time is to the world record as well as the US Record.
Instead of saying the young man is doping, I would like to say he is a person who will change the mentality of US HS running in much the same way Newbury Park did 6 years ago. Once HS runners see that kids are capable of running 1:45 or better in the 800m as well as other kids running sub 3:57 for the mile, the attitude will change.
For Cooper's sake, I hope he doesnt come on these Forums or get involved in all the details others are saying about him. He needs to just focus on himself and try his best to drown out the noise.
There are so many things that need to happen for him to even be considered to win an Olympic Medal at some point. As many of you know, some of these things can be controlled by Cooper and team and others are just plain fate and luck. My question is how does he go back to running Dual Meets in Track and XC after competing at the highest levels in the sport at such a young age. Being that he has already run 1:42, does this mean it might take him another 5 years just to get to 1:40 high because the line is now razor thin?
He needs to not let other peoples' expectations get the better of him now. Not sure if he has a Sports Psychologist he can speak to but it might be a good idea. He is only 16 years old and the expectations and accusations of others are now going to get bigger than they already are.
He seems like a good kid. I wish the best for him and I want him to enjoy the moment.
