It makes me laugh how caught up in their feelings and invested people get in David Roche.
Yeah, he's cocky. He was also a pretty big underdog here (despite the Leadville win) and made it pretty clear he was looking for all or nothing. He took a massive risk, and it didn't pay off.
If you can be a grown adult, ignore your feelings, and laugh at the occasional stupidity, it was actually interesting seeing his training/build. There was full transparency (as far as I could see) and it was well produced, and mildly entertaining (again, control those feelings!)
Kilian put out couple of videos which were also good, but didn't provide anywhere near as much insight, which I would've loved to have seen. Given Roche's "ALL OF THE CARBS" approach, Kilian was just like "Yeah, I have olive oil in my bottles," with no further explanation, despite going against all the recent ultrarunning trends, and being pretty fascinating.
One thing I will agree on was Megan's speech/interview, which was facepalmingly cringy. Yes, support your husband, but maybe just tell him in private he "would've won on a good day" rather than declaring it to the world.
He tried to do something that was way out of his depth. He failed. It doesn't mean he never will. It took Jim several attempts, too. Do I think he will? Unlikely, but if he did, then fair play to him.
