What bouncy shoes did he wear? I’ll be sure to pick up a pair.
You can tell this clown has never run in the Ambitions and doesn't know they aren't bouncy. Despite this embarrassment, he still goes on to mouth off polluting the rest of this thread with more idiotic comments.
Funny how people who complain about "superspikes" always demonstrate a lack of the most basic understanding of them.
You mad bro? Nah bruh, we just need to fill the lists with bouncy shoe times. Doesn’t matter how they work, all that matters is that they work - right bro!?
My first inclination was to say lets see what he does against Fisher with Fisher's last lap kick in peak condition. But after seeing that, Young def looks up to the task. Looks quick and stronger than usual on last lap.
8 African-born guys ran 12:51 or faster today, with 5 Ethiopians from 12:45-12:49. So while I think your question has some validity, the much bigger change here is the Americans and George Mills running wayyy better than any Americans and Brits were running 20 years ago.
The obvious explanation is that more Western distance runners are living and training at altitude for longer periods. Going back even just 10 years, Western distance runners were still largely going on altitude camps for a few weeks or months. The East African runners were born at altitude and spending most of the year there, living and training. Things have changed now. George Mills uprooted his life and now pretty much lives at altitude all year round. Grant Fisher moved his life to altitude as well.
Again, I know Western runners have known about the benefits of altitude for decades, but they haven't generally committed to it year round up until relatively recently.
This is all to say that "East African genetics", which some have liked to talk about, is a massive red herring. All top distance runners have freakish genetics, regardless of where they are born. But some benefit from advantageous environmental factors. That's been evened out now.
On the genetics side, it's correct that all top distance runners are genetic outliers, it's just that East African genetics tend towards a higher percentage of the population having the right genetics.
If you read the oringal post, it acknowledges your same point. Ritz and Solinsky didn't get many Ws, but their comparative times are still superior. I was shocked to see so many down arrows. Do they not agree that Nico is great, that Nico will surpass the times of Solinsky and Ritz, Do they not agree that Nico has incredible potential, Do they not agree that this win alone makes him a unique american athelete. The people on these boards can be crazy!
All extremely aided by technology. The sport is ruined.
I said this when shoes were invented for the first time. Been all downhill for the past few thousand years.
Right bruh! We need to get all those pre shoe times of the list. When shoes were invented back in 12,000 BC it really set off a stir with the iaaf. Now, I think it’s safe to say, only times from the last 1000 years exist. Whew! That was close! You made a good point though - that running a time that rivals late 90s EPO era WRs has nothing to do with bouncy shoes. So, thanks for pointing that out.

Their comparative times are much worse. Ritz and Solinsky ran 12:56 & 12:55 when the WR was 12:37.
I used to say years ago that this skinny kid without any muscle will burn out and never do well in the world stage. Boy I am glad I was totally wrong. Bravo Bravo Bravo.

Same. I used to worry that he was always pushing himself too far, running crushing VO2 workouts in high school to grind out every last bit of his talent. No, he was just a physically/mechanically weak kid with a massive engine his body couldn't keep up with yet. Now, it's all coming together, and I am so excited to cheer him on more.

I still don't like his form (Cheptegei / Ingebrigtsen / Bekele look better) but it's improved a TON from a few years ago
All extremely aided by technology. The sport is ruined.
It’s not ruined but we certainly need to put things in context. For instance, the 12:56 that Ritz ran over 15 years ago is more impressive than this 12:45. And the 12:58 that Kennedy ran 30 years ago is better than both. But 12:45 with any tech advancement in a stacked field is still impressive.
Id love to see how fast todays athletes would run on older tracks, with no wave lights, and no fancy shoes.Maybe grand slam track could do it,but not diamond league. Its hard to compare, and we will never know.I dont know how quick bob kennedy's 12.58 would be by todays standards.
I agree that his form has improved. If you look at some of his high school or college races his face looks like he's in extreme pain and his form wasn't as good as it was today.
Somewhere around 12-18 months ago or so there was a NAU workout or two on youtube where Mike Smith mentions that they were working with Nico on his form. The form work and countless miles have definitely paid off.
Ask Haile Gibrselassie how Jos Herman used a whip to rip that right arm of his into proper order for 10 years and failed. Haile’s form at the 1990 Boston world juniors was the same at 2013 great north run. That’s how we know run firm never changes qualitatively. You may be able to have ‘better form’ in terms of larger or faster range of motion of but the fundamental sequence of those never changes and us your fingerprint.
Mike smith revealed to us what a liar he is. Young’s form had never changes due to any physical work done on it that had evolve naturally with time but due to illegal pharmacological enhancements.
you can conceal it or obfuscate your fingerprint with pharma but you can’t just by simply eating well sleeping and training awesome.
The physics of it dun lie. I can’t be challenged on this unless counter invoke with another competing physics.

you shouldn't have even bothered with this response. it didn't do you favors.

Mike smith = dirty coach as of today
Please enlighten us on how drugs improve form?
Sure thing.
Drugs enhance blood circulation and delivery in a targeted manner to targeted cells. This fact alone props up your bio energy and hence your form. Little idiosyncratic movements just simply become less apparent at a higher bioenergetic vibration. Most drugs have direct or indirect influence on blood biomarker proteins. RBC for instance can become rounder and meatier and less coagulated due to higher magnetic stability. That results in pinkier and healthier blood. If this doesn’t enhance mechanical movement then what does? It’s just plain physics come on. Don’t listen to the sycophantic trolls on this thread

You have a gap on your knowledge. If people need bouncy shoes to still run equal or slower to 90s EPO era then some other foreign variable has interacted with human physiology in the interim 20 years in a big way UNDETECTED. Without this undetectable variable Komens and Bekele records wouldn’t have taken so long to be broken and Asbel wouldn’t need to evade tests just to fail to break El G records too. 5k record would have been 12:20 by now. 1500m 3:19, 800m 1:38, 10000m 25:20, HM 55:00 and FM 1:56:00 for mens.
Undetectable read forgotten variable has something to do with artificial EMFs. No prizes for guessing that correctly.
