The only people who watch long races are track people. I agree with boring. An average person or even sports enthusiast would be bored stiff watching people they don’t know run around in circles for 15-30 minutes. Think about it. Why would they? They have no clue or care who these people are.
I am a track person and I don't watch em. Too darn boring. Heck, I even prefer the field events to the distance races.
I've actually always enjoyed the field events in diamond leagues. Probably started enjoying fied events before even short sprints. Not that I follow them, I don't. But I'm generally genuinely amazed by all the jumps and vaults. Weight events are ok not bad honestly for a entertainment perspective.
Who cares about the crowd it's the first year. Let the meet grow in prestige, fame, fans. Just be a running fan not a bot
It's generally good to be an optimist, but lets face it. This whole deal was DOA economically. Kudos for trying, and they might get a season two, but then it's over. Unless there's some guy or group out there who really likes losing money.
Just got back from GST Philly. I was honestly surprised by the size of the crowd AND people were really into it. This was evidenced by the merch line was at least 80 people deep at all times at the lone tent where they were selling stuff. They probably cost themselves an easy $50k if they had 3 more tents going.

Life is too short for me to spend watching people go around an oval again and again for 15 or 30 mins. The longest sprint takes less than a minute. I can then get back to life.
If you think Sydney just ran the short race for fun or to challenge herself and pass up an easy 100k in her specialty you're a Moran. GST obviously paying her big bucks on the side to do this and create intrigue, which is fine. Hell get her in the 800 next time.
I'd bet 100k she's making at the very least $100k per event as salary on top of earnings. She's The biggest name in the sport worldwide.(Excluding people in their home countries like tebogo, alfred, sifan, Jakob, Keely, Michelle jenneke lmao) MAYBE you can argue Noah is similarly or more famous but she was the very first slammer and literally other than mondo or maybe Shelly ann the most accomplished tf athlete currently competing.

Exact reason why I didn't get a shirt in Miami.... And used the moment I was going to buy a shirt to take a picture with Cooper Teare. I should have asked to take a picture with Rachel too honestly

Props to Andrews, Kelati, and Cranny for hanging with Ngetich in the last lap. I loved how Andrews grabbed the lead and truly believed she could win. Cranny got dusted in the first two Grand Slams, but she looked world class today.
And props to the letsrun degenerates for constantly crying about unrabbited, tactical races and helping get the 5000 removed. You have no right to call yourself distance fans.
If she truly believes she could win she’s completely delusional.

Who are you people?

Yep, DQ'd. Unfortunate for her who's been having an excellent year so far.
I'll need to check the rules book, but I am pretty sure she would not have been DQ'ed if she had moved back into her original lane. I believe the rule states that a runner must FINISH in their assigned lane. Simply drifting into the next lane on a straightaway should not be a DQ unless you impede the runner in that lane.
It is somewhat similar to Duke dropping the baton at the very end of the 4x400 at ACCs a couple years ago - they did not get DQ'ed for dropping the baton, they were DQ'ed because the runner could not stop her momentum and finished without the baton. Had she dropped it a few meters earlier and could have stopped herself, she could have picked it up (the baton did not cross the line when dropped) and then finished with it in second place. Duke would have won the ACC title.
Being at Franklin Field was fun today. Good size crowd (much bigger than I thought there would be. They were loud and really into it from the 1st pro race. I watched the first two stops of the meet on TV and agree ie was hard to watch, but being in Franklin Field it is a very different experience and in a good way. Too bad the stands are 5' above the track, it limited the exchange between the athletes (who stopped for many fans to take pics and sign autographs) and the ushers had to move the people away from the rail so fans could see the next event. If GST comes back to Philadelphia next year I would go again.

this may come as news to you... Ican only assume you did not know there was a sprint section.
Yeah another excellent effort from Arop, but nothing surprising about it.
In general I think that in trying to have this value proposition of "racing first" with no pacers and lights, Johnson and his team were probably hoping that these races would be a little more unique than they have been.
But the reality is I feel like even in this grouping (easily the best grouping he has) all of these races are still as predictable as what happens elsewhere in the track world. This 800 felt no different to either Kingston or Miami and the 1500m tomorrow might have a little more interest because of Kessler and Hoey but this is also fitting in with the pattern we've seen. Giles will be battling it out with Chapple for 7th and 8th, Arop motivated to see if he can possibly pick off a body and get a 5th place which puts him in contention but it will likely be Nuguse, Kerr, Hocker and the two best challengers deciding the 1500 - kind of like we've seen in each slam so far.
They are good performances but still nothing really separating themselves from the DL/Continental tour, or am I wrong?
The 800/1500 group unfortunately doesn’t work when it comes to the 800m races. 800 guys are just too fast and capable of kicking off any pace. 1500 guys despite going out slower and doing no leading go backwards vs the fit 800 guys in every homestretch. The tweak for next year is making it a 1500/3000 group. The 800 guys it’s a little unclear what to do if they have to double. Maybe you do 800 and 3000 on day 1 and a meeting of both on day 2. 16 for an unpaced 1500 might be much so you could have the last place challengers eliminated or something. That’s be completely fine to get it to 14.
