He was also charged with strong-arm robbery and domestic battery by strangulation. What the heck was he doing?
Yes, two new charges added which we know very little about at the moment. Reportedly he'll go before a judge on the new charges tomorrow.
#UPDATE: Olympic sprinter Fredrick Kerley also faces charges for strong arm robbery, domestic battery by strangulation & domestic violence. I’m told he’ll go before a judge on these charges tomorrow. Thurs. night he was arrested and Tasered for battery on a cop, etc. @wsvn… https://t.co/hUSjCPHLGSpic.twitter.com/DlfdMEesXG
Exactly. It’s pretty unusual to have assault-less battery. Could happen with a random sucker punch from behind but usually someone has been threatened by the time there is contact

Charging “battery on a police officer” and “resisting arrest without violence” also seems contradictory. Did he hit a cop or didn’t he?
The body cam footage makes the resisting charge seem more plausible than battery. Though I still don’t like the way the cops acted here.

Bringing in yet another article. This one with details of his court hearing today. It makes no mention of the new domestic violence or robbery charges, but does note that the battery on a police officer charge is a felony, while the others are misdemeanors.
An Olympic medalist is facing legal trouble in South Florida after police accused him of assaulting an officer during an incident in Miami Beach late Thursday night.

At the time he was battering the police officer, they were not attempting to arrest him. After this, they beging to attempt to arrest him. At that point, he was resisting but no longer acting violently. Two discrete actions.
Resisting arrest he has no law suit. I got clubbed in the head by a nite stick years ago and because I resisted I had zero law suit.
Yeah that's not true. For one thing "resisting arrest" implies they had probably cause to arrest him in the first place. I'm not sure what they would have arrested him based on the press release. Not leaving a public area that happened to be a crime scene? When I was in law school I went to a cocktail party at a friend's house. He lived in the college-y area. Our music was probably kind of loud but it was known that the local college beat cops had "noise complaints" on file. Cop shows up. Friend says we'll turn the music down. Instead of just citing him and leaving cop goes berserk and demands we all leave the house. I assume he expected to find a bunch of underage college kids drinking from red solo cups. Instead he found 25-35 year old law students dressed up drinking champagne. We decide not to escalate things so start to leave. Cop then tries to enter the premises without a search warrant. Friend says he doesn't consent to a search and turns to shut door. Cop tackles friend to ground and arrests him. Then cop starts screaming at the 10-12 of us standing on the public sidewalk to leave the area. At that point there was no way we're leaving. We had to bail our friend who was booked on "resisting arrest". Turns out cop broke friend's arm. He got a 5 figure settlement.
He doesn't have nothing. He is the one that's paying 5 figures at least in fines!
Every interview I have ever seen of Fred Kerley (probably 25) he is absolutely arrogant and belligerent. I know people who have worked with him and they say the same thing. And what did he do last night......be aggressive, arrogant, and belligerent. The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree. No matter what you can not be an idiot to the police as it never ends well.
Fred could’ve handled it better but unnecessary escalation from the cops. They tasered him after like 15 seconds
One of the cops was black and one was a woman, so we don't have to rely on the assumption that this was "motivated" by anything other than wanting to clear the area around the crime scene (already in progress).
