That’s sad to die having let a job suck the life out of you for years, you don’t even consider retiring and spending more time with your wife and kids/grandkids. You die forgotten in a few weeks cuz you chose your precious job over your family
A lot of negativity and jealousy over coaching positions. Not every coach is miserable all the time. In my case, I spend tons of time with family and still am very busy at work. I'm not miserable because my job is awesome. Maybe there are some people who aren't happy with their position but I hope they figure it out.
I don’t believe this guy is being negative or jealous he’s just stating a real life rational opinion. I do believe he is right that many coaches loose site of reality and choose their profession as their identity. Sure you can enjoy the job but like you said you spend tons of time with family, you do know many coaches do not right? You’re the minority and that’s great, it should be the majority. Some may very well be in a bad position and need to figure it out, that’s different and shouldn’t affect their family life if that is of high priority to them. Put family and god first and the rest will fall in line. Or you can live lonely and with regret and die wishing you had a chance to do it differently.

Have you done any actual research that I'm in the minority? Or are you just guessing based on anecdotal evidence and wishful thinking?

29 years as a Division I coach, last 17 as a Head Coach. Enough research for ya? Probably not, but I digress.

Lol of course it's not enough research. You're literally admitting to using anecdotal evidence and 0 research lol. You should keep digressing.
Sure you could definitely describe it as anecdotal, but only people who don’t understand or are in denial uses that narrative as an excuse to dismiss what someone else says as if theirs no facts behind what is said.
LRC posters secretly resent people who chase their dreams because they never had the courage to do it themselves.
Here people are bashing the job of coaching because it is a big time commitment. In another thread, people are congratulating a 2:06 marathoner for retiring and taking a desk job instead of trying to run 1:59. They were happy he gave up on his dreams because it provides them security knowing they aren't the only cowards who played it safe.
Keep judging all you want, but when you are laying on your death bed you'll realize you never really lived life. You will perish filled with regret for all the things you never tried, regret for settling on a mediocre life instead of a truly special one.
I've done absolutely 0 actual research and am just speaking out of my butt
Fixed it for you. Moving on.
Ok bud whatever you say. Looks like your comments aren’t very liked on here based on the downvotes, I guess what you’re saying is anecdotal as well. Yes please move on, some of us actually have a program to prepare to win championships
RALEIGH, N.C. - WPU Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Cameron Davis as the Head Cross Country Coach. Davis brings a wealth of experience as both a collegiate
They hired a Softball assistant as a Head XC Coach. Some of these athletic programs try to save $ by using assistant coaches for other sports. But in the long run they are losing $ because they will just have softball players on the XC team with a couple random students that are already enrolled that want to run. The driving force in D3 is high enrollment to keep the university open. But actions like this is not responsible to the university and is giving the student athletes a terrible experience.
The athletic departments and ADs have to do better.

This is insane, this is like middle school level ADs....did she run xc in middle school so they figured she could coach it at the college level? It's so disrespectful to the sport... "oh, it's just running, anyone can coach that." Sorry - but I do wish this program ill will.

This is wild. If they're anything like our softball coaches they probably haven't run a step in years.

I'm not trying to defend this as it's clearly not good for the sport, but it's highly probable that they didn't have any qualified applicants for the position (or who were willing to accept the position). D3 jobs like this one often pay in the $25k-$35k range to coach both genders for all 3 seasons (i.e. 6 sports) with no assistant help. On top of that, they have no facilities, and the website currently lists 10 athletes total combined M/W. They also likely have an operating budget for all 3 seasons M/W combined of $10,000 or less. No matter how good of a coach you are, nobody is ever going to be successful (and almost nobody is going to be happy) in that position under those circumstances. It's also probably the case that the school isn't particularly attractive academically (and may not even have any niche majors that attract students) since it's not considered an elite school, so there's almost nothing enticing that can be marketed to recruits. The bottom of D3 is an absolute nightmare.
Nope! I do VERY little in summer. That stuff has been done by then. Summer is for family and chilling if you know how to do it right. 34 years and counting 20+ All American's. Coaching has been the best thing for me Hands down in my life! Brought me many other people / moments in my life that are amazing!
