He wasn't racing Norwegians. He got roundly beaten by the Africans in the HM. He greatly over-estimated his own abilities - yet again (Paris) - by going out at wr pace and was reduced to a walk just to finish. That isn't "taking a chance" but a big ego who hugely overestimated his abilities. A hobby-jogger could have shown better judgement.
I agree in your premises in this post but not your conclusion. -Well, of course there’s an ego involved here. But Jakob is so good that he is entitled to have an above average ego on this field! That doesn’t mean he is right every time -he might even be very wrong some times without revealing symptoms of an inflated or insecure ego at all. We all misjudge, and some do this more often than others -I for instance have clearly misjudged my training and performances year after year precisely because of a huge talent and secure self confidence. Life is so complex and difficult that even being intelligent and balanced (when it comes to self insight) doesn’t prevent us from doing huge errors or misjudgments..!
I might be wrong but Jakob seems more knowledgeable, balanced, self secure and genuine humble than the average guy. And playful. But when it comes to certain performances there’s no other way than trying. And he throws him self into life… And over and over again he proves himself..! (Although he has an under balance when it comes to champs he need to fix).
Should Jakob have kept his big mouth shut? Maybe. But maybe not -who are we to know what serves Jakob the best..!?
I don’t think Jakob’s great visions about him self are a sign of an inflated ego, egotism or delusion. Not even if he turns out to have lesser capability than he thinks -being wrong doesn’t mean that we are delusional. It just means that we are wrong; sometimes for good reasons…
Some on these boards think Jakob is quite speedy in a 800m and even a 200. -I personally doubt that very much, and my guesses are that Jakob too doubts this. But saying this I see no evidence of f.x Kerr being significantly faster. But I may of course be wrong… When it comes to Jakob’s distance possibilities I haven’t seen enough proof or indications of him excelling (not even in the 5000m) -he might be right or he might be wrong. -I have no clue. But other posters think they are seeing some indications, and that’s OK by me. They might of course see things better than me -ObjectiveObserver is an good example: For instance he believes in Jakob’s supremely distance capabilities -does that make this poster inflated? Of course not. Jakob neither..!
No - he didn't run this race as an "after-thought, obviously". He talked about entering the race some weeks ago, speculated about how he might go and then went with the preplanned wr pace. He clearly thought he could go with the best in the world over this distance. He can't. He was considerably slower than Kerr's effort in the HM - and he is a 1500 specialist. Ingebrigtsen isn't anywhere near as talented as either he or his fans think he is. He is a big-head who embarrassed himself.
You confuse "humbled" with "embarrassed".
For someone who always talks himself up it was easily more an embarrassment.
He walked very briefly. He ran most of the way to the finish.
So it was just a little biddy walk. That makes it much better. Actually he was reduced to a walk not long after he blew up after 10k. He didn't seem to realise the race was barely half way.

You're a nice fellow. You are also very naive. You think Jakob is like you. He isn't. He makes an ass of himself because he has a bigger ego than just about anybody in the sport, and he isn't as good as his inflated opinion of himself would suggest.
I watched the stream, it's not that he just completely dropped off the pace at the 10k mark. He completely stopped, hands on knees, out of breath, walked for like a minute, tried to go with the next group, then stopped again, walked etc. He was completely empty.
So probably in a 10k race this day he would have ran maybe 10 seconds faster. Which would be like 27:12-27:17.
hop off jakob's stick. this forum is obsessed with him, yet he doesn't know any of you exist.
For someone who always talks himself up it was easily more an embarrassment.
In his intrview after the race you could tell it was a humbling experience. He will have more. He is only 24, these experiences will make him a better man.

We learn by embarrassing our selves and can learn a lot from it. And we also need to be big headed sometimes to see if some great ideas can be real, or we need to adjust something a little, or even finding a whole different play field…
Jakob has always embarrassed himself a lot. -When he ran the mountain race Stoltzekleiven up second time as a 16 years old he totally miscalculated his efforts, and had to crawl over the finish line. So why did he do that? -He had run it the year prior, and knew he hadn’t a chance against the specialists. But his fitness had increased, and that seems to be the reason for his miscalculations, and not “I’m better than everyone”….
You seem to think that Jakob has such an inflated ego that he doesn’t learn. Well, I disagree -after his 12 th placing in the hilly course in WC U20 xc he said he never would run a WC xc in a hilly race. And I believe him -I hereby predict that he never will confront Kiplimo and his equals in a hilly WC.. But Jakob is also realistic and flexible: He ran Euros 2022 xc in a real up and down course (because the competition is far weaker than in Worlds) -he’s not afraid of taking chances. -How could he know he would win easily there (after being crushed in that WC U20 in a shorter course) without running? And again -how could he know for sure that it would go so disastrously in the HM that day without trying..? What if he had had the day of the year instead of a bad and fatigued day shape even after a couple of miles..?!
You seem to have a need of hating and disrespecting and ridiculing this Norwegian young athlete, and this is just how it probably has to be (because of your need), but I have no problem of laughing about it all. But I have to admit I prefer the better jokes: F.ex how Henrik and Filip “bullied” their younger brother after the mentioned mountain race (that was mostly a run up hundreds of stone stairs) -every time afterwards Jakob walked in a stairway the brothers shouted to him: “Be careful, be careful; watch out for the lactate!”….
Lastly: Maybe I’m a little cruel. But I thought Jakob’s HM was hilarious! (And no; I have huge respect for Kerr’s achievements this year, but in the HM he would obviously be crushed by Jakob even worse than in the 3/5000m -that is if both got decent prep). And I feel privileged to follow such a fun and exciting athlete that Jakob has decided to be….

". Even the best have terrible races. Seeing him gasp for air like he was having an asthma attack was alarming esp for someone with such a big engine who routinely wins European cross country races at the 10k distance against sup 27m 10k runners like Jimmy Gressier. But the good news is Joshua Cheptegei came back and won the World Cross Country Championships and set world records so Jakob can redeem himself. I just wish he waited and trained up and ran his first 1/2 in Valencia in December and he would not b going through all this doubt about his ability and health!

The scary truth is Jacob suffers from an extreme narcissistic disorder. He has reached the point where simply winning no longer gives him the attention he desires. The Olympics win was not enough he had to either win in the most extreme way leading from start to finish in WR time, or losing dramatically was just as rewarding to the attention he would receive. This 1/2 attempt was another way to get extreme attention, either breaks WR or collapses like a HS girl at the end of an XC race.
kerr tapered for his HM and it was in the middle of winter when he is doing threshold training, which is training for a HM. it was also net downhill so world athletics illegal
Not only high school girls collapse, have you not see Joshua Cheptegei in the 2017 World Cross Country Championships "" or Lentsebet Gidey "" or Cooper Teare "". Even the best have terrible races. I also mentioned 'asthma attack'!!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems we have matching brain energies if our thoughts so coincide perfectly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really there was no excuse for such a 'big engine' like Jakob to be having an 'asthma attack' at only 6km into the race after an average 13:53 5k opening!!!!!!!! And because it's so inexcusable for this to happen, I explained to all my LRC folks that the only reason explainable for SOMETHING SO INEXCUSABLE is due to great anthropogenic RF assault on Jakob's high-performance biology!!!!!!!!!!
Jakob's biology is not habituated to performing at a high level in super polluted RF city that winds from point to point rather than fixed in a single location running circles on a track, you feeling me??????????
Jakob is only habituated to performing double thresholds in low or lower RF zones in Sierra Nevada Spain, Flagstaff Arizona, Sandes Norway but when you put him in a dense RF city like Copenhagen or Paris he flounders!!!!

I saw a video where Aouita explained that he prepared his 5000m WR of 1987 by training at the beach of Agadir.
Nothing to do with these fake performers of today that need to train in high altitude.
Cooper Tear crumbling in a XC race? that appears a bit normal.

We agree Ingebrigtsen has embarrassed himself - yet again. Whether he learns from it is moot and not at issue. My view is that he simply isn't as good as he or his fans think he is. I don't "hate" him; I think he is an arrogant twat but I mainly question or counter the adulatory nonsense that is repeatedly posted about him on these threads.
