More and more kids seem to be in a rush to decide.
When one of my kids was going through this, his friends who committed early were hounding him every day to commit somewhere quick or all his preferred teams would be full.
Valid sure, but where are the parents and coaches teaching these anxious desperate kids what is actually important in life??? Sports are heading in a direction that is extremely toxic

There is a lot of anxiety about not getting a spot with the house settlement and roster limits. I think it's valid.
Agreed. But also, if you're offered a spot at Stanford the summer before your senior year (they had 3 commit a little bit ago), who would turn it down?

FOMO is real.
It's more this than anything.
if you are good nearly all teams will wait for you, at least until signing day, which as we know, is in November.
(Yes. there are some very good schools, who have the pick of whomever they want, where spots may be all gone but those are the exceptions, not the rule.)
Anyone else ever consider that social media and the attention one receives for posting the commitment is as much of a driver as anything else?
is there less social media attention for those that commit fall of their senior year? Do a lot of people that commit early ending up de-committing (indicating they weren't actually sure yet)?

this ^ - that’s why every year a number of kids sign right after NXN or Footlocker - if you make it to these races unattched you will have excellent options, if you aren’t dead set on a specific school
almost positive lilly beshears decommitted from alabama
Lilly Beshears recently deleted her Instagram post that said she was going to Alabama, so she must have decommitted. I wonder what happened that made her decommit?
