I think she went in with tempered expectations, knowing what she was up against, but she’s clearly not satisfied with the result. I’d say that’s a good sign for her future. Sounds like we won’t see her race again until next year.
WOW, she set her expectations way too high to be this dissatisfied!!!! Look at Nico Young he wasn't all that displeased with his 10k performance.
All things considered, you and I might think it’s unreasonable for Valby to be disappointed, but that’s what will drive her to get better, just like losing early in her college career did. Does Nico also have that level of competitive edge? The jury is still out on both of them at the international level. Anyone who thinks they know for certain what will happen 2,3 or 5 years down the road should be ignored.
She is the fastest American in history. Tuohy held that title on these boards for several years regardless of how many times it was pointed out that a bunch of Americans were faster. But we were told that they were older than her and that those marks didn't count in comparison.

since you can't seem to word things that really make your point, I will help you. She is the fastest 21 yo (or younger) American in history for 5000 and 10000 meters. I believe that is accurate. The qualifications need to be stated as there are faster American at other events, or at the same events at older ages.
Aptos native Nikki Hiltz, the 28-year-old, first openly non-binary athlete to earn a USA Track & Field national title, set the women’s mile American record at Monaco Diamond League on Fri…
My headlines are clearer than many are. Every descriptor is not required. Many females break course records or national records or age group records and the headline merely says that they are the fastest ever, even though men be faster or older athletes may by faster.
In honor of the NCAA Outdoor Championships taking place this weekend in Austin, Texas, it\'s time to reflect Katelyn Tuohy\'s record-breaking 3,200m in 2018.
Valbymania is not about irrational and unfounded exuberance placed upon one runner, but a celebration for the striving for excellence in the pursuit of greatness in running. Parker achieved great things this past year in the NCAA. As a fan, the Expectations for her to accomplish Great Things is high! Putting limits and dampening excitement for the future is incompatible with Valbymania.
You could celebrate the same in an enthusiastic dedicated club runner. But there aren't countless threads about these anonymous heroes. You and her fans here have formed a cult about a runner who hasn't yet achieved anything at the top of the sport and may never do so. Proportion is what is lacking in your devotion.
And what is your problem with people being fans? Why do you have to try and put them down?

Young is far more competitive at an international level than Valby. If he can improve his 10000m PR by 20 seconds, and with his decent middle distance speed, he’ll be in the mix for a medal. Valby needs to improve by well over a minute and even then, she’ll still be vulnerable to being out kicked.
Wow. The unwarranted cult like posts pertained to Ping in junior high and Tuohy in high school. As much as you now try to diminish Valby's accomplishments, she is the fastest American in history. She is the fastest NCAA runner in history. She is an Olympian. To not celebrate the best runner ever is what would be questionable behavior. To put those things down would make someone insane.
She isn't "the fastest American in history" - except amongst young women at college level. However commendable that doesn't make her an international athlete of any calibre. 11th in an Olympic final means very little. You set a very low bar for American athletes. Yet in the past the US has had Olympic champions and world record holders. She is simply not in that class and likely never will be.

It's been pointed out, the fastest college athlete is not the "fastest American in history". It means nothing at an international level.

I don't have a problem with fans unless they are also fantasists, as the Valby cult shows. They have a completely unrealistic view of her achievements. On the international stage those achievements so far amount to nothing of any significance. That could change in the future but there is nothing inevitable about it.

The fastest 1500, mile and 3000 times? Bring Tuohy up all you want, but KT had a very good record against Valby until this years magic improvement and has the 1500 speed to become a good 5000 runner. She just needs to be patient.
But she is the fastest in history just like Hiltz is the American record holder.
It means nothing at an international level and the very best Americans - Billy Mills, Jim Ryun, Dave Wottle, Frank Shorter, Mary Decker, Joan Benoit and so on - were the best in the world in their eras. So, to say Valby is "the fastest in history" is quite misleading if not incorrect unless you're only talking about college runners.
