I honestly never thought "Last Supper" until I read comments about it afterward. I'm sure that the organizers will deny that that's what was intended.

I was more offended by the suggestion of a threesome (the video segment with three weirdly-dressed people touching each other and then closing a door). Why is that either necessary or acceptable?

On a broader note, I was hoping for more of a celebration of French culture and athletes. Instead it was Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, lots of non-French athletes carrying the torch (Nadal, Serena, etc.). Yes, there were obviously some uniquely French elements with the way the ceremony worked its way down the Seine, but a drag queen fashion show? That could've been anywhere these days.

Vivienne Westwood would have rolled her eyes at some of the fashions.

France is hosting the 2030 Winter Olympics.

guys. doing parodies of the last supper painting is a practically universal universe (ok, maybe not in puritan USA). it's not 'mockery.' and even if it was, this painting is not part of your 'religion.' it was done by a guy in the 15th century depicting something that - if it occurred - surely looked NOTHING like what is seen in the painting (and not just because everyone is white)

if there's a 'portent of the times' here, it's that much of the USA has become a cult and is heading toward making idiocracy into a documentary

I missed this and the last drag buffet, but as a whole I thought the ceremony was stunning. There's no way LA can match what Paris did with the back drop of the Eiffel Tower and light show, the Louvre, river Seine, etc.

Oh, the LA organizers are cooking up some cool stuff. The parade of nations will be held on the 405 and will be led by a slow moving Ford Bronco. There are rumors that Snoop is playing such a large role this time in anticipation of a much larger, Crips vs. Bloods segment at the LA ceremony.
