List of California teams that somehow got into the sweepstakes but need to be switched out with better teams.
Cresenta Valley (very unimpressive 2 mile race against Mira Costa) Dana Hills (no talent besides Noonan and Hunter) El Dorado (young team, hasn’t raced yet, but I don’t think they will be good) Foothill Technology (unimpressive 3rd place finish twice in a row) Newbury Park (14th at Cool Breeze Invitational) Millikan (15th at Cool Breeze Invitational
Some better options for sweepstakes than the teams listed above.
Redondo Union
Clovis North Orem (UT) Bozeman (MT) El Toro West Torrance Aliso Niguel
Whoever assigned these teams to races must not feel ready to get off the Newbury Park hype train, and must hate to see Noonan and the rest of his team in a different race and must want to know how Dana Hills would do with their full lineup in the same race
I'm trying to wrap my head around this one. Hamilton had 3 of it's varsity runners compete in the Ojo Rojo invitational this morning, 1 day before woodbridge. It appears they were actually racing as the 3 varsity guys ran 15:31, 15:32, 15:58. Never seen anything like that. Why would you race the day before traveling to an out of state national level race?
Why so much talk about a 2 mi race ( roughly ) in September enlighten me?
I have a feeling you already know all this, but I'll take the bait. It's not 2 miles, it's 3... and it's the flattest and fastest course anywhere, so most runners PR here and won't beat those times all year.
The race is epic, regardless. Top talent (from the Western United States at least) runs under the lights at the Great Park with the big orange balloon flying overhead, music blasting, and the sky lit up. It's a highlight for athletes, families, recruiters, and fans.
Rock Canyon won the Liberty Bell invite. Definitely a team to watch in the Sweepstakes race. Looking forward to seeing how they do against some other good Southwest teams like Hamilton
