Fantastic measured effort by dos Santos to spoil the party in Oslo. Warholm maybe overcooked it a bit in the first 250. A rare chink shows in Warholm's armor heading into Paris.

I am also perplexed by this. My only guess is because Ethiopia selects the 5k team on SB, and it's so competitive they have to basically peak this early to even make the team. Literally they had to leave Telahun Bekele (12:42.70 SB) off the Budapest team, which also makes one question the 3 per country allotment
He replicated it at Pre with a 7:23. He’s just dreadful tactically due to his huge stride/lack of gears and leaves it to a complete sprint in the 5k finals.
Yes, 800m women are and always have been terrible at pacing for whatever reason.
The pacer was hot though
I know - in the past you can understand it. But how is nobody going to these girls before the race and explaining what they need to do.
"So we need you right in the middle of the blue lights. Your goal is by the time you hit the 200m point - run preferably in a straight line from whatever lane you break from, you want to be nicely in the middle of these okay?"
Except we see them sprinting their behinds off in the first 250 and starting to rig up the home straight which brings them back on pace after they messed it up for anyone that stupidly goes with them.
Of more note, World Indoor 800m Champion from Glasgow, Duguma, finishing only 7th and failing to break 2.01.
The first European Wanda Diamond League meet of the year is today in Oslo as the Bislett Games are taking place. The men's 5000, 400h and 1500 have me super pumped.

Wondering what Sekgodiso’s last 200 was, over 32 possibly? Wild stuff.
I mean that entire last lap was pure rubbish. Compare that to Hodgkinson who just ripped the field up in Eugene with a sub 59 - because she ran a smart and even first 500m

Also, respect to Dos Santos and Warholm coming out here to face each other. They are 2 parts of a 3 part rivalry and not everyone in this sport would come out to face their sworn enemy like that. For all that Bolt did he NEVER faced his rivals on the circuit.
I like Kejelchas chances much better in the 10k. I’m still leaning that Chep will get his peak right just because he has been so dominant the last 3 Championships (worlds that is although an Oly silver is not bad either). Too many kickers in the 5000 for Yomif it seems
