Likening me to Jackie Chiles from “Seinfeld” is a far cry from calling me “it” and “Transphobia Verbosa” the way you usually do. OSAA has a quasi-legislature, the delegate assembly. it is inaccurate and dishonest to suggest that because the "call" doesn't go your way, or doesn't reflect some polling not specific to OR, then it has to be some sort of fiat. no one person waved their wand and made this happen. a group met. a group made a decision.

re WA, i get why you are throwing them around on the trans issue, but typically your ilk are the sort of people who on 20 other issues don't want to hear what the UN thinks on anything, or the WHO thinks of covid causes, vaccines, or health policies.

also, while touting the WA approach you neglect that they actually have some nuance on intersex, an issue you want to pretend doesn't exist. DSD can compete within some testosterone limits and such. their answer is not a flat "no" because DSD underlines that even as a science matter it's fake to pretend like it's 100% separate boxes. those arguing "if we accept" some other "premise" don't know their basic sex science. it's basically a pseudoscientific echo of "adam and eve not adam and steve." there is a such thing as hermaphrodites.

i get you're a conservative and think nothing ever changes but we have evolved past such things as slavery and apartheid also. in 1860 you could own another human being. in 1960 you could tell a black person they couldn't vote or be in your town after dark. in the longer historical sweep these positions look like trash.

y'all talk like you're the "rights" people. these folks deserve some basic dignity and rights. now, some of it is debatable, life decisions made as a minor, certain medical approaches, how to integrate in sports. i personally prefer a paralympics-style approach where we carve out the 3rd box for intersex, trans, disabled, etc. rather than have special olympics and paralympics off to the side, bring everyone into the meets. my state now has wheelchair. this brings people into the sport while trying to make everyone happy. NYRRC and others now have a non-binary. just open that 3rd box out bigger to everyone else and mainstream it. people shouldn't have to be in a personal closet because a loud minority wants to push religion or hate at the majority's expense.

this is not going back in the box. take a hint.

I run for a 6A Oregon high school in the same district as Mcdaniel and was at districts when Mr. Gallagher won the 200 and 400, you should have seen the podium. both times you could tell they felt awkward because they knew they wouldn't have won anything running in the correct races. Multiple women did not get the opportunity to run at state because this person with a biological advantage took their spot and were rightfully upset but couldn't express this because they would be framed as being in the wrong here.

This isn't a matter of bigotry or hatred as you're making it out to be, the reality is that this person with a biological advantage is using this opportunity to run at state whilst stealing the spots of women who rightfully earned them because they would be too mediocre otherwise.

Since thanks to chuckle I’ve spent part of Mother’s Day enjoying Jackie Chiles clips, it seems fitting to share this one from the end of the “Seinfeld” series that seems relevant to this thread. Chiles’ sentiments parallel the feelings/views that many "gender critical," reality-based people have today about trans activists’ campaign to convince us that "women" and "girls" are terms that can apply just easily to human males as to females - and to get us all to believe there’s such as thing as the female penis and female testicles.

Yes, in some other species, there is such a thing as hermaphrodites. But not in humans or other mammals. Hermaproditism is confined to a tiny number of animals species such as snails, slugs, worms, barnacles and a couple of species of fish.

For many years now, using the term "hermaphrodite" to refer to humans has been considered "bad form" and "not the done thing." Because calling people with DSDs hermaphrodites gives a very misleading picture of human DSDs and sows confusion and spread misinformation about these conditions and the people affected by them.

Calling human beings with DSDs hermaphrodites just serves to stigmatize, dehumanize, other and monster them.

Also, for the record: all the known DSD athletes whose participation in the female category of sports has generated controversy in the 21st century - like Caster Semenya, Francine Niyonsaba, Margaret Wambui, Dutee Chand, Barba Banda - have a one of a small handful of DSD conditions that only affect males.

There are approximately 40 different conditions considered DSDs in humans. Most of them are sex-specific, affecting only males or only females. But out of all the different DSD conditions, the only ones that have been a thorny issue in women's sport are a few that specifically and exclusively affect male sex development - mainly AIS and XY 5-ARD.

Just as female people who identify as trans and are roided up on massive amounts of exogenous tesosterone have not been making inroads into the open/male division of sports and beating the pants off boys and men there, athletes who are genuinely female and have DSDs that affect female sex development have never been a problem in women's sports.

How on earth can you say with a straight face in 2024 that people who follow and post about sex divisions and classification in sports take the position that DSD athletes are "an issue you want to pretend doesn't exist"?

As a liberal living in a very liberal area(my dad is so far left he hates all Christians because of abortion bans) I can assure you this is not supported by most liberals. This is supported by the fringe and extreme and people cant say anything about it or they get called transphobes even if we have 0 problems with trans people(except in sports).

first, did you talk to the podium or did you just assume? my perspective you wasted an opportunity to find out facts as opposed to read what you want into body language. you think i looked happy as a duck in water when i was 2nd or 3rd? you should have asked. particularly when you then want to act like you're reporting back to us. i would genuinely like to know. you're not helping.

second, dude, your secondary schooling is failing you if you believe "1" runner costs "multiple" others their state progression. if OSAA progresses x number places she by definition displaces x-1. basic algebra. 1 person gets squeezed. if it's by time rank, she pushes 1 slower runner out. if it's a time cutoff, actually, she shouldn't clear anyone out, as they just need to make the time. this is basic logic and math.

i realize racing someone faster can be disconcerting but unless there is one spot on the lifeboat, it's more complicated than just this person that you didn't progress. you could have been the next person or the next.

this is part of the reason i have been saying, is this widespread, multiple kids in each event -- akin to the 800 a cycle ago in the olympics (semenya, etc.) -- or is it one odd kid in a whole state meet. if it's one kid, several others make state in that event, they have their shot, and no one else is affected. it doesn't need the whole armageddon response.

last, it looked to me like in the relays the school got eliminated. it's still a race. don't like it, do your job. i mean, you'd have to go significantly faster than this person has to make the podium in TX. you want to go around and skirt check them? get your OR girls faster.

because you can only act like WA has some "dismissive" standard if you ignore that an intersex can compete if they are within a testosterone limit and some other criteria, and then not in some events. to be fair, there are some world sports federations that do ban intersex. WA isn't one of them.
