Tiger Grizz is next week and has the Rocky girls, Livingston, and Johnson. Reeder isn’t at Vallivue- she’ll be at Woodbridge. Then Firman, but no Sullivan there as Capital doesn’t do Firman

I don’t think we’ll see all of the 6A District III girls against each other until Districts.

Boise definitely looks like they just reloaded on both sides.

In the boys race, Eagle was missing their #2 from the last meet, but even if he finished between their 1 and 2 at this meet, Boise wins the meet 24-33. They lose their 1-3, 5, and 9 runners for next year but look like they will be just fine. Jack Sheesley won by a ton, and Jens Knutsen beat Jackson Porter by 6 seconds, who beat Evan Jones two weeks ago. Eagle's #4 from the first week was 4th overall here, and beat Lucas Roberts by 12 seconds, so they do have a legit top 4, especially if everyone races well. Boise's 2-5 spread was only 35 seconds. Not bad when your #2 was a 4:26 and 9:46 boy that didn't run a 3200 after April 6th and got 11th in the District 1600m.

On the girls side, Boise will return their entire top 5 from this meet. They had 5 girls go 20:00 or faster and it looks like they were missing a girl that ran 20:03 last year. Last year they had 4 girls, but were missing Allie Bruce. Sammy Smith did run for them but was then gone for the state meet, so it's probably a wash between the two. They had a 19:32 average this year vs. 19:23, but last year they had already raced two 5k's before this one and this is a week earlier into the year. I think you could make the argument that they are comparable to last year, especially if the race was as deep as last year and not just a dual. That team lost at state by 12 points to the team that lost their #1, #5, and #6 from last year. If they don't win this year, I think they will next.

I'm seeing Timberline on the team list for Tiger Grizz.

Boise, Eagle, and CDA all don't have a meet on the calendar for this week, so it seems like it will be a bit of a down week for Idaho.

I'll be interested to see how the Timberline boys and girls can perform on a course like Tiger Grizz that has a pretty well established history of results to look back on for data.

Rocky should win the boys side hands down like the last couple of years, but the Timberline girls will be the Rocky girls first kind of competition this season, although I think they should also be able to win without too much difficulty.

Timberline is running Eva Rivera. They didn't have her before. I think Timberline is very good again this year. I think winning easily is an overestimation of the Rocky girls.

FWIW, inserting CDA's speed ratings into Jerome- CDA wins 27-28. Obviously not exact, but Rietze being gone really does hurt CDA quite a bit. If Willow Lane ends up getting speed rated, it will be interesting to score out speed ratings between Boise, CDA, Timberline, Rocky, Meridian, Eagle, Owyhee, Borah, and Capital. Mountain View, Centennial, and Highland are the only other players missing.

That's closer to a Rocky upset than I thought!

As stated earlier in the thread, Rietze most likely can be healthy enough to put up a decent time come State/NXR, so CDA still wins this matchup 99/100 times, but it may come down to which team has the most improvement throughout the season.

Where Jerome hasn't been speed rated before and Timberlake has been a bunch, the data should be taken with a huge grain of salt. If you put Rocky's marks into Timberlake, they win 47-51, however, there are something like 8 total spots that are within .5 of Rocky's scorers on speed ratings.

We'll get updated speed ratings for Rocky on Saturday that will give a more clear picture. CDA won't have another set until Woodbridge and then again in October for the 509 race. CDA is barely racing this fall- only 4 planned regular season meets for their varsity boys. For comparison, Rocky has 7, Timberline had 7 planned, Boise has 6, Mountain View had 6 planned, Eagle has 7, Centennial had 5 planned...

Star Valley is entered. The boys side has been a walkover for Rocky the last couple years, but Star Valley is a top 5-10 team in the region, and Timberline is solid so this might actually be really interesting as to how the team score shakes out.

Mountain View as well. Mountain View is, on paper, much better than Timberline and Tracy Harris has had a lot of success on this course over the years.

Wow... Timberline girls over Rocky girls at Tiger Grizz: 42-47.

I expected that the Timberline girls would be top 4 at NXR with Ihmels, but with her gone, I had a hard time seeing them being anything more than top 3 at state/top 8 at NXR.

Was it a bad day by the Rocky girls? Was it a good day by the Timberline girls? Was it both?

Did the Rocky girls have a good day but just aren't cut out for gunning for the win at state this year?

Mountain View finished 3rd at 82 points.

I wouldn't guess at if it's a good day or a bad day for either team until they have a few more results. Timberline had a girl that ran 19:26 at Jimmy Driscoll get 20th here in 20:41. She was 4 seconds back from their #2 at their first meet and 40 seconds up on their #3 at Tiger/Grizz, so it's not like they didn't have girls that had bad days.

I'm not sure why anybody would discount Timberline on just the basis of losing Ruby. They brought in girls that ran 5:11 and 5:26 in 8th grade. They always were legit.

The top 4 definitely appear to be Timberline, Rocky, Boise, and Capital.

The next two are likely Eagle and Mt. View, then probably a bit of a gap, then Highland, Owyhee, and CDA.

Although it doesn't really change the data set or conclusion you came to, I think its important to remember Rocky's 1 (Heemeyer) did not race TigerGrizz in 2023. So the times you have listed for that year should be considered their 2-8

It's clear that the race was faster this year, but I still think that Timberline and Rocky are much stronger than last year's Rocky was.

It'll be interesting to see if the Oregon/Washington teams improved like the Idaho ones have, because if they haven't, Timberline and Rocky could have decent NXN chances.
