I am not. I have seen sprinters (not 800m guys) do 10.7, just under 21.5, and 45.9. I expect most 800m+ guys are more likely to be that than the 10.4/21/46 guy that is a lot more common.

None of them could go 47. Ingebrigtsen would struggle to go below 50.

J Ingebrigtsen, sans p.e.d.s is not capable of breaking female 400m w.r. J Ingebrigtsen would likely sprint 400m closer to 50 seconds compared to sprinting near female 400m w.r.

How would you say FAT times for 3 people with different time? Personally I round but you can do whatever you want.
but think Michael Johnson (10.09/43.18) but only running 45.9. And yes’s MJ tried and that 100m race was about as wind aided as possible. want to just make up times and say well they could have done something, go for it. But in the real world those times were never run.

nick symmonds ran 47.45 in july 2012 which is already faster than the fastest 400m women runner who ran 47.60. given that this was in july 2012, where he was prepping for his 800m lifetime best, it is doubtful that he was specifically training for the 400m which means that his 47.45 was likely ran as a test run while he doing 45-65 miles per week. if he dropped his mileage down below 20 mpw, surely he could have taken down the 100/200m runs as well.
in 2015, he ran the 3000m in 8:20 which is 14 seconds off from the skeptical 3000m WR and 2 seconds from the modern day 3000m record (with super shoes). his 8:20 was ran early in the session where he followed it by dropping down to his main distance of 800m, so that 8:20 was likely just an early session "open up my lungs" run. with the help of running in a non recorded track meet in china or running with super shoes, the 3000m record would easily be broken which really puts the 5000m in jepoardy. a 100 mpw nick would take down the 10000m but not by much.
bottom line: any top level 800m runner who is neither a top level guy in 400m nor 1500m can probably break all women's WR from 100m-10000m. if he has the speed for a top level 400m, they likely won't have the endurance for the 10000m WR. if they have the endurance for the 1500m, then he likely won't have the speed for 100m.
Most commenters do not get that great male md runners - which is what they would need to be - are not sprinters. They don't get near 10.5 for the 100 or even 21.3 for the 200. Some might be faster than 47.6 for the 400 but if they are they are unlikely to beat 14:00 for the 5k or 29:00 for 10k.
Exactly. It's amusing to see posters state that a 45 guy who 'might' do an 11 sec 100 could do 10.5 "with a bit of training" lol. Several guys could potentially get/have got 400-10k marks but NONE would get 10.5s. End of thread.
A guy like Brazier could have easily run 10.49 with specific training (I would bet he could have done it at his peak without specific training). Could also scare that 10k time with specific training.
Isaiah Harris won his State 200 and Mile the same year. He might be too much of a pure 800m guy though.

You shouldn't use the word "easily" because it's not true.
10.5 is very difficult and you need specific fast-twitch explosive muscle make up. It's not just hard work that gets you there.

The most significant change in T&F, going from leather shoes, circa (1958 to 1960) to nylon shoes. The change of shoes, more significant than cinder/clay/dirt/grass to artificial surface. Some track athletes who competed on artificial surface tracks and natural surface tracks at their peak, sometimes set personal bests on natural surface. All who competed in nylon shoes and leather shoes at their peak set personal bests in nylon shoes. Even on natural surfaces, going from leather shoes to nylon shoes, over a second a lap.

Why is anyone talking about the 400 at all? For anyone to seriously undertake this, the 400 has to be easy. Otherwise, there is no possible way you are also running 10.49 and 29:01.

I think the view that 800m runners would have the best chance at this is correct. Still don't think it can be done. The 800 meter runner you refer to who isn't a top level 400m runner is not going to be able to run 10.49.
I didn't explain thoroughly? Most 800m athletes sprinted their last f.a.t. 100m as a teenager. Most 1500m and longer athletes never sprint f.a.t. 100m.
Brandon Johnson, f.a.t. 10.4x 100m has already been stated a few times on here. A poster tonight provided us 10.6 100m by Rudolf Harbig wearing leather shoes and racing on cinder. Eight-hundred meter men sprinting 10.48 or faster is settled.
Can elite 800m men sprint 10.48 100m and race 29-flat 10000m, same day is the only remaining debate.
Gonna take the contrarian stance here and say no. You need real deal sprinting talent to run a 10.49, no long-distance runner or strength based middle-distance runner is touching that.
That leaves the speed-based 800 runners, but the vast majority of those guys are 10.7 types (given their 400 times) and it's not at all a given they can get down to 10.4. So this basically comes down to "do you think Brandon Johnson can run 29:00" and I just don't think so, anyone with the fast-twitch ability to run 10.4 will have a MISERABLE time training to run 29:00 even if there's a big reward in it for them
Just as a sanity check, everyone who says this is doable will agree that their team of Coes and Webbs would run a 4x100m in 40.82, right? That would be a lot easier than any one of them running 10.5 from blocks.
