Shout out to Californian Jaelyn Williams, who finished 7th today. I remember her taking the lead early in the CIF State 3200 last spring, before finishing 4th. Sophomore on the rise.
Addie Ritzenhein's mother was also a star runner in her Michigan h.s. days, and at the University of Colorado. Look up Kaelin Toedebusch. Two fast parents is better than one.
looks to me like leachman is going to keep getting more and more carried away all the way to the finish
Leachman obviously couldn't keep up 16 low 5k pace on a cold day on a muddy course. No high school girl in history could have run 16 low on this course today.
Not sure what Leachman was thinking.
She's a high school sophomore who is unaccustomed to having competition. She's incredibly talented, but she's also young and inexperienced. She get ahead of her skis. She'll be back. I imagine that young Ms. Ritz, Rahmer, and Leachman will have some great battles the next couple of years.

Rachel Forsyth's parents were also very good runners.
And Chiara Dailey, who turned down an NXN invitation so that she could win the Foot Locker West Regional today, also has two very good runners as parents.
Maybe you can educate this fool who thinks genes aren't that important?
Firstly let me tell you a story of my XC team. We all sucked. Most of our coaches thought our talent was negligible. We had majority guys running 18-19 minute 5k with one guy running 17:50s. Then we had a new coach who cared...
Colorado and Utah should each be their own regions. It is more defensible than California or NY having their own regions. 4th SW boys team ahead of all other regions 2nd. SW girls sweep the rest of the nation. Nobody paying attention should be surprised.
This is recency bias.
Google "nxn historical winners" to see how dominate NY has been on the girls side. Its actually quite absurd how insanely dominate NY is. No NE girls team would have a shot.
Additionally, FM was hit very hard by covid and has not been able to put a program together since, (they are a small school for reference). But aside from their girls program being 100x better than the rest of the country for 15 straight years, their BOYS program also has the most podiums ever for ntn/nxn. Not many people realize how great their boys are bc they are overshadowed by the girls.
Also, I don't think it's fair that some of the high schools in the SW recruit from other high schools - even out of state. It doesn't truly reflect the talent of their local high school (or coaching) if they just poach talent from other teams.
Simmons was actually with all of his teammates at the 1k. No one from AF was in the top 100 at that point. I guess he was setting the pace for them at the beginning. I applaud him for that leadership and his willingness to give up his individual title for an attempt at a team title.
