Mu not even thinking about 1500 at worlds lol. She rolled her eyes hard--but in an amusing way-- when asked if she would be running it in budapest. awesome to see her shoot for US glory. too bad she didn't win.
How do they let Mu dictate the pace?? Do they think they can outmick her when it’s slow?
Athing Mu is a TERRIBLE position runner. She was running on the line between lanes 1 and 2 even when she was by herself, and then kept it there all the way to the finish. And then lost by less than the wasted distance.
Good heavens.
She runs the 800m the same way. It's how she almost lost to keely
That seismic shutter we all experienced were all of the basement dwellers from this message board. Absolutely losing their mind when Hiltz takes first and Mu was second!!
I expected Hiltz lethal kick to get the win, also had Johnson and McGee up there. Did not have Mu running 4:03. Get some wave lights and Mu might break 4:00
Can someone explain the process if Mu chooses not to run the 1500 in Budapest? Would the 4th place person then be able to go?
That is the process. Yes Sinclaire would go.
To paraphrase the Rojo thing: more bad news for Keely Hodgkinson. Moraa another national record, Athing casually running 4:03 and beating 3:58/4:18 women. Good luck.
We don't know the training Mu has been doing but I'm convinced that if she switched to pure 1500 training for a couple of years she'd at a minimum break the AR.
The 1500s should be great. I've travelled into time and already watched the men's race. Spoiler alert. Here is our recap:
The magical 2023 season of Yared Nuguse kept on rolling tonight in Eugene as Nuguse won the men's 1500 at the 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships in a US championship record of 3:34.02, eclipsing the 3:34.08 that future Olympic champion Matthew Centrowitz ran in 2016. Nuguse, who set the American record of 3:29.02 earlier this year in Oslo, got the win in a performance that likely would have made Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen proud as he led virtually from start to finish. Nuguse took the lead just prior to the 300 meters and ripped of splits of 59.2, 57.5, 57.3 and 40.0. 2021 Olympic Trials champion Cole Hocker actually had the fastest last 300 of the night 39.8 to move from fifth to second in 3:34.75 with 20-year old Hobbs Kessler third in 3:34.92.
2021 NCAA champ Joe Waskom and Kessler tried to follow Nuguse the closest but Waskom faded to 5th.
Live reaction show at 11 pm ET where we'll break down all of the action which includes the 1500 and steeple finals.
