A hard course where some kids do unusually bad and you get bigger time gaps is not a good candidate for speed ratings. See Utah’s state meet a few years ago when when it was a bazillion degrees.
But to get a rough idea what it would be, give the winner a 183 (or another number) and then it’s 3 seconds per point.
OTOH, Jimmy Driscoll has had speed ratings in the past and might again. If not, you can get a rough idea by matching times to speed ratings from the past meets. It isn’t always the same, but it probably won’t be off by more than a couple points.

I took a look and the two past Jimmy Driscoll races have wildly different speed ratings. In both scenarios applying that race’s scale to this year’s, BK, Centennial, and Mountain View aren’t close to CDA, however.
Not much of a preview if they only talk to Aaron Olswanger.
Statewide, it’s about as thorough a XC preview as you’ll get anywhere. These things never do a deep dive on every division and every team and sure it could have spent more time on 5a boys where most of the LR crowd in this thread is interested because of NXN implications.
I mean, it's objectively terrible to speak to one coach who names other teams that are competitive and not speak to those coaches, who are also local. Ty Axtman and Jeff Howard are some of the easiest guys to talk to about running. It's the same as any other coverage of this sport. Just superficial and lazy.
I’ve run up at Bogus a lot and have run on all of these trails. You can’t judge anything from this course. Rocky’s #3 runner not being there doesn’t change Boise beating them. It doesn’t really even change the score.
Course was VERY TOUGH. Athletes were running anywhere from 2-4 minutes slower than their PR's (showing just how much variability there was between runner's ability to handle terrain).
But like was mentioned, Rocky still had a pretty poor showing on the boys side.
For the girls, judging off of that one race, Boise will be really hard to beat.

The variability up there on Nordic ski trails at 6,000ft with kids rolling ankles, redlining, basically walking up steep inclines made for quite a results page to look at. We will learn much more about all the teams and runners in the coming weeks at other meets.
