They "parted ways" because although his abrasive, lie filled rants have been good for ratings, he just cost them 3/4 of a Billion dollars. He and the network are also being sued by another voting machine company he committed libel against. He and the network are also being sued for discrimination and a hostile workplace for women. They will likely lose all of these cases and it will cost Billions. Fox had to cut ties before it gets any worse. It is not some need by Fox to become a legitimate news source. They have proven they are fine with lies, but not with business losses.

Discovery was not avoided. Discovery was done. Case was at trial. We have plenty of emails and texts attached to publicly filed documents, including all the stuff Carlson said, and we KNOW why Fox caved in and settled.
Both parties to a civil lawsuit are subject to reciprocal discovery. How does any adult in the US not know that basic court procedure?
