besides the swing out, how is the arm motion any different than what happened in the mile? If that's what they would DQ him for, why would the more obvious "blockage" (though clearly not intentional in the mile) not be a DQ?
Just trying to understand the rules... Seems to be very inconsistent in enforcement to me.
People rarely get DQd for this kind of behavior but I think they should. Runner’s should have to pick a line coming off of the final turn and stick to it if veering off of it means obstructing another runner.
He did pick a line. It just happened that the line was diagonal...
Disagree, Bizimana had the speed to finish it out and he was forced to slow down when Navasky went in front. If he hasn’t moved out it would’ve come down to a lean
Yeah I think Bizimana wins if he hugs lane 1.
I’m normally for the DQ, but Navasky looked like he was a stride clear the whole way, the arm thing is worth a challenge though.

It’s the totality. Swing out plus arm = DQ impeding
Syd better watch out - Wilson and Bol are looking scary.
I'll wait until Syd actually opens up her season to provide any real judgment but she has real competition this year.
So many people keep saying that. But they forget that Sydney's hurdling technique is much better than Bol and Wilson. Plus Bol and Wilson take 15 steps and Sydney takes only 14 steps for the first 7 hurdles.
Bol and Wilson still have a ways to go before catching up to Sydney.

Even if it seems to impede the athlete less than in the mile?
Are the rules the same in the NCAA as in say the USATF championships? Because Paul Chelimo a few years ago looked to do something similar yet more extreme there and it was considered clean.
Anyone notice that after the officials were picking on Luff for his foot placement at the 60m hurdle start, his foot got kinda tangled on pushoff? It looked really awkward, I feel bad for him. It's gotta be pretty impactful on a 6.5 second race to have to change your foot placement last second.

Rule 7.5 Not in Lanes ARTICLE 3 The referee, after consulting with the appropriate officials, shall disqualify a competitor who: a. Jostles, cuts across or obstructs another competitor so as to flagrantly impede the other runner’s progress (direct contact is not necessary - any action that causes another runner to break stride or lose momentum is grounds for disqualification); b. Cuts in front of another runner without proper clearance or one full stride on the curved line start; c. Veers to the right or to the left so as to flagrantly impede a challenging runner or forces the challenging runner to run a greater distance;

Chelimo should have been disqualified as well. It was not "clean".
We really do need a rule that just puts Anderson in 2nd please instead of DQ. He shouldn't lose being 1st team All-American for that. He clearly beat everyone else in the field fair and square besides Bizimana.
