1500 WR. 5K WR. Back to back Olympic titles. World Cross win. Back to back World Championship wins. That would most definitely put him in the bracket in my opinion.
You can always dream "White Supremacy Club" member.
I just recall you these facts:
- The last white runner to win an Olympic 100m was in 1980 in Moscow because they were a boycotted games.
- The more you go to shorter distances the more you see less finalist white runners.
- Jakob can trick the current system by advocating a GOAT is a pure utopia and lie.

What?
If Jakob does those things, he is definitely in the discussion for GOAT for middle/long distance.
That's why i think he'd better leave the idea of competing in the 1500m-mile and move on to longer distances. If he moves on too late than he'll be too old for attempting the 5k and 10k WR. He is loosing too much time with 1500m. That El Guerrouji WR is literally unbreakable.
Jacob has improved his 1500m best to 3:27.14. Note that this is only 1.15 secs from El G WR. Further, this took 1.16 secs off his previous PR run at the 2021 OG.
Did you really say "only"? 1"15 is more than you think in a 1500m race. I hope he understands that the greatness as a runner won't be misuread by his ability to break the 1500m WR, but the ability to win also in middle-long track races (10k) and road races (half and marathon) eventually breaking those "breakable" records such as 5.000m, 10.000m and half marathon.
Now it's only 0.73 secs off the 1500m record.
He took over 3 secs off of the "unbreakable" 3k record this year.
Assuming he remains healthy, he has a darn good chance of taking down the 1500m or one mile record in 2025
Now he puts this performance down because it's in a non Olympic distance. One of the most dishonest persons I have ever discovered.
The greatest athletes set world records over championship distances. He hasn't. Until he does so, he isn't in contention for that title.
Armbuffoonstrong: "You think his best chance is the most impossible record in the book? Realism isn't part of his fan base."
He broke the - by your faulty standard - "most impossible record in the book" by more than 3 seconds.
So far he isn't in the top 10 all-time in distance running. He is 24 and has a very good chance to become one of the top 5 very soon. For the best in the history he needs several more successful seasons and WRs in Olympic events.

Who do you think are the 10 ahead of him. I would actually rank him 10th in my list.

Gebrselassie
Bekele
Coe
El Guerrouj
Aouita
Morceli
Snell
Kipchoge
I think you are right, he actually already might be in the top 10. (Nurmi's era just was too different for any comparison, Zatopek was too slow).
With Ingebrigtsen's boasting the word "hubris" comes to mind. But he is an example now of the age we live in. It is full of it.
I think you rightfully mention the word “hubris” linked to Jakob Ingebrigtsen, because his visions about himself seem somewhat unrealistic, and maybe even highly unrealistic…
But there are nuances: 1. He once said he never would run sub 1.45 in the 800m. 2. In the 1500m he keeps on saying that the WR will be tough to beat (for him and his lack of under distance speed), but he thinks he has a change with a supreme pacer, if he keeps on improving. -Not much hubris that, from an athlete that are “only” 0.74 sec from his goal, and wasn’t in peak form when he pb’ed…. (And the same with the mile -he said 0.60 sec behind was a huge gap, and that he had to take slights).
2. He already has the records in 1500m indoors, 2000 and 3000m and 2 mile. So don’t you think it’s understandable that he allows himself to envision the break of the 5000m record?
3. Here is why I think Jakob’s hubris isn’t a narcissistic inflated one: He has run a super fast 3000m, and won 4 top global races in the 5000m. And he believes his training is more suited for the longer events than for mid distance, and that he has a better talent there than in the 1500m. And he even (although with very thin basis) thinks half marathon can be his sweet spot. So lets say he’s wrong, and when it comes to the half marathon very wrong -but can’t you at least understand how easy it must be (given his training and performance background) to end up with a little hubris..? And what about all the posters that have bought into Jakob’s goals -do you really want to call them narcissistic if the visions turn out to be wrong, and not simply call them wrong, as we all can be..?
You have said something about Jakob’s 800m speed, and a sweet spot not longer than around 3000m, and the few indications we’ve got may seem to give you right. But athletes like Hassan have shown that Jakob’s goals at least theoretically are possible -do you really want to call fans that believe in Jakob for complete idiots before he has tried enough to judge..?

You fail to see the necessary distinction between actual achievement (which he has shown) and boasting of things that haven't been achieved - and may never. Great champions in the past let their running do the talking; with Ingebrigtsen it his mouth. For him to say he intends to be the greatest runner of all time is empty boasting. It is an aspiration that can only be reached by achievement. Anything else is mere chest beating.

The bar to be in contention is a tally of championship golds - he is on his way there - and world records over championship distances. There he has yet to score. Beating Komen's record is not a substitute.

For you, Komen's 3000m mark was the "most impossible record" (what a stupidity) in the book. More difficult to break than 1:40.91, 3:26.00, 12:35.36, 26:11.00, OK, Buffoonstrong?
Ingebrigtsen has broken this - for you - "most impossible record in the book" by 3.12 seconds.
Do you think he will break 12:40 in the 5000 when going for a fast time?

If he wins the 100m gold he has the greatest range of all time. Maybe in LA28. He does the 100/200/400/800/1500/5k. Whatever that is called(6 events). Maybe he should break the indoor race walking 5k next year. With all those records and golds he would probably be the goat.
With Ingebrigtsen's boasting the word "hubris" comes to mind. But he is an example now of the age we live in. It is full of it.
You said absolute time matters more than %. Well I know a guy who got a 20 minute pr in the marathon. Is that the same as a 20 minute pr in the indoor 60? You lack the intelligence to be able to make statements really at all.

It was that kind of record, as it had lasted over a quarter of a century. But tell me how he's doing with the obviously much easier 1500/mile/5k/10k world records? They seem a lot harder for him. Beating Komen's mark does NOT make him the "greatest runner who ever existed". That's a title confined to his imagination and that of his fans so far.
