Cross country conversions are more mysterious than a straightforward conversion in Daniels’ Calculator, even not discounting anything for considering a grass course versus the track.
However, the simple conversion only makes sense if we have an accurate distance for the Cross Country course.
Wonder whether a journalist has asked the question of whether the SEC women’s course was accurate?
The times on the course were ridiculous. The whole top 6 pr'd significantly, three sub 19 times, etc. It was either short or just a super easy course. I mean 18:25 and 18:33? The ACC course in contrast was a very nice course, hills, dirt, rollers, loose grass.

yes. the margin of victory over chelengat is the most telling thing that happened in the race. We know Valby is awesome. But this does not set her apart from Tuohy.
If she wants to set herself apart, there is only one way.

The SEC Men's times were also fast. Watching the race (once again) it was flat, well cut, firm, perfect weather, no sharp turns...just made for speed. The lenghth? Who know?
But in a strictly NCAA race? Valby might have to front-run those, but if she can get in fast races with pro’s (and rabbits, and even pace lights?), who knows?

She was not paying much attention to splits, but running by feel in yesterday’s performance, per her post-race interview (thanks for posting it Gators T&F):

I CANNOT wait for the championship.
I don't believe for a moment this was a real 6k course, based on the times and PR's. Margin of victory is much more useful.

Something to consider that I haven’t seen mentioned, is Chelangat’s margin of victory over her teammates. At Joe Piane, Mercy finished 3secs ahead of Olemomoi. At the Crimson Classic, she was 2secs behind her and Tyynismaa. But yesterday, Chelangat finished 20sec ahead of Olemomoi and 33sec ahead of Tyynismaa.
The takeaway is that Chelangat was likely not showing her full strength at the first two meets.
Runners, particularly newer runners, will have fluctations in performance. Also Joe Piane was a sit and kick race where Tuohy blew it upon the last 1.5 k and Chelangat just got gapped. Chelangat was 1 second slower than the previous course record so she was definitely making the effort.
The Crimson Classic sounds like an intrasquad race without serious competition. Like NCst at the Adidas opener.
Valby has the Solinsky/BTC wildcard. My impression is that Solinsky really, really wants to have "I coached a national champion" on his resume. He certainly knows the tricks of the trade. Depends on what lengths he is willing to go.

I looked at the top 15 finishers and each of them ran a much faster pace for the 2.12 to 3K split, and each of them accelerated in the 5 to 6K split. Some by a little, some by 15 seconds over that K vs the 4K to 5K split. But not a one was slowing by the splits. Since the course was 2 loops, I suspect the 2.12 to 3K and the 5K to 6K sections were short.
Here are 2 of them - the 13 in between show the same general results Valby 400 m pace by K 1K 1:16 2K 1:16 3K 1:08 4K 1:14 5K 1:14 6K 1:13
15th finisher 400 m pace by K Rogers 1K 1:16 2K 1:20 3K 1:15 4K 1:25 5K 1:26 6K 1:21
Use your imagination. No one from BTC should be coaching in D1, including Schumacher. The BTC runners doped/are doping, and you would have to be braindead to think Solinsky, who was with Schumacher since college, did not dope to set ARs. I have never seen a pro athlete who doped in competition abandon the doping culture when they start coaching. They will spread it to their athletes. Hope this is a rare exception.

The 2-3k looks a bit different. But the faster 5-6k included Valby sprint finishing at the end.

He appears to be in a great career position. I just can’t fathom why he would risk his job for that. Doesn’t make sense to me.

I have now gone through the 18th finisher and they all show the same results. Everyone accelerated for 3rd K and noone slowed in 6th K Taborda 1K 1:16 2K 1:20 3K 1:15 4K 1:26 5K 1:29 6K 1:22
